Recommendations for Brush for Long Haired Cats

I wondered if anyone could recommend a good brush for two very long haired cats? One of them in particular seems to be getting some really nasty knots in his hair and I had to carefully cut one out this morning as it was so matted. I think my current brush just isn't up to the job. Here's a photo to show what their fur is like.

Thank you.

They are gorgeous!
So for for cats with that sort of hair you won’t get away with just one brush; for my longhaireds, I have:
1x Furminator - be sure you buy the one for long haired cats. This is great to remove the undercoat. It’s absolutely amazing.
1x medium toothed comb - for tackling the matted hair
1x Zoom groom to lift loose hairs

Little but often is the trick, it’s better to do 5 minutes every day than an hour once a week. Also in the morning, you can wet your hands and run them over their bodies - this grabs loose hairs.

For your beautiful ginger boys I would also be tempted to get a conditioning spray to help deal with any knots in the making

Kids Tangle teaser for everyday brushing. Metal comb/ Grooming rake once a week. Furminators are not great for long haired cats as they pull and don't deal with the undercoat.

My boy gets matts on his back which he doesn't like touched. He does however adore a tangle teaser, so DH sets to with that under his chin and I use a furminator to gently prise out the matts. If you're too rough with the furminator it does just seem to yank out fur.
Zoom groom is great for a quick go over daily, a metal comb for when it's tolerated and I've now realised he has more hair items than the rest of the family put together!
Obligatory photo of my long haired chubster...

Ps. mine goes to the groomer about every 3 months and it keeps the worst knots at bay. Costs more than my hair cuts do!

Thanks so much everyone, it looks as though I will need to buy an assortment then! I will try the tangle tease and the furminator and see how I get on.

Lovely photos of your long haired beauties. I'm a real sucker for a long haired cat, even though they can be hard work!

Wow, they are very fluffy and gorgeousGrin! I just have a metal comb for my longhaired and short haired cats, and it seems to do the job.

Sorry know I'm a bit late to this but just spotted it. Please please avoid cutting out matts with scissors, their skin is so stretchy and fragile it's easy to nip them. We have 2 rag dolls and if they've been picking fights and ended up with a matt then use a beard trimmer to cut it out that you can literally hold against your skin turned on and it won't cut you.

We brush them everyday using an old tangle teaser of all things! Works a treat and they much prefer it to stiffer brushes.

Your kitties are gorgeous btw Smile

I accidentally cut the late Maia when cutting a mat out. It would have healed fine on its own, with hindsight. But I panicked and took her to the vet. £200 for stitches. It hasn't even bled. She was fine. I was devastated!

@CraftyGardener and @Toddlerteaplease please don't worry, I won't be cutting any more knots out!
