Why did cat poo on the stairs?

I am very confused!

Cat has a litter tray, which he uses regularly, and also had access to outside (poos out there occasionally, but usually inside). He seems healthy, and happy (although he does sometimes get bullied by other cats that come into the garden). This morning I found two pieces of (thankfully dry!) cat poo on different steps of the stairs Confused. This has happened before, a month or so ago (we cleaned up with "wash off" spray). The stairs are wooden and have open banisters so I can't see why they are attractive Confused

Any ideas why he has done this??

Were they definitely stair poos, or could he have had "clingers"? My long haired two occasionally drop a poo lump their way out of the box as it gets stuck to their hair...

Other than that, some kind of protest? My friends cat poos on the bed when there is a cat sitter on duty. It's some kind of anxiety driven demonstration... Only on the bed though. If bed access is denied then there is no protest. Could something have frightened him from a window and sent him all territorial?

There were two pieces, a few steps apart, so I guess clingers maybe.. they were about an an inch long though, and he doesn't have very long hair Confused

One of my short haired cats occasionally leaves the tray before the last piece has dropped off. She's generally a very clean cat, and does a great job of burying normally, just happened a couple of times. BTW, I have long hair and I do find sometimes their poo is like strings of sausages attached together by my long hairs!

I’m going for hang ons that fell off as he went upstairs rather than protest poo’s.

They don’t tend to poo, then stop and start again somewhere else.

I'm also guessing clingers.

Yes, I suspect they were clingons (especially as you described them as dry)

I call them cling nuts
