Mummy cat and her kitten hissing at each other- sad

A cat had kittens behind the shed, five out of six kittens sadly died and we have kept mummy cat and son.

Boy cat is now 8 months old and they have started hissing at each other! Is this normal? I am happy for them to not be snuggled up together but don't want them to be unhappy. Would feliway help?

Yes get some feliway. I have a mother and son although they are older and they do get on pretty well although Lucius is a twat sometimes and annoys Bella!

It’s normal, it’s their way of encouraging the kittens to leave home. You’ve done well to last this long, they usually start much earlier.

Zylkene might help take the edge off the situation.

WOW that's really interesting Fluffy. Even though he is bigger than his Mum she hisses the most. He is a big ball of gentle ginger fluff!!

Human Mummys just haven't caught on yet.

Wish I had thought of hissing at ds when he was still living at home at 24!!

Has the boy kitten been castrated yet?

If not this might be the problem?

chocolatespiders · 30/04/2020 20:20

Yes he was castrated at 4 months.
They used to be closer, she fed him for quite a while and when she was going out and he wasnt he would be all over her when she came back in.. maybe she is telling him to back off now!
