How much do you actively play with your cat?

DCats are 14 months old, so they're young and active and love to play. One of them in particular constantly badgers us to play with him (will meow persistently and walk over to his toybox until we follow).

I probably spend 15-20 mins a day playing with him using his cat toys (usually in 5-10min chunks). DP plays with him too and he has his sister to keep him entertained as well. They're allowed outside in the day so not short of stimulation. I guess I just wondered how time other people spend on kitty playtime, because if you listen to DCat he will tell you he is terribly neglected Grin

I also wonder if maybe if he'll calm down a bit as he gets older?

My girl cat is 7 and likes me to play with her and her toys every morning and it's usually around 20-30 mins. She gets upset if I don't. I give her a lot of attention when I'm home and in the evening she likes to play with her ribbon before I go bed and hide it under her duvet for around 10-15 mins.

I've got 3 DCats. The younger one, 4'ish, goes in and out all day and isn't really interested in play. She was when she first came along, but not so much now. I do try and play with her, but it only lasts a minute or 2 before she gets bored of me.

My middle DCat spends most of her time upstairs, but she does wander down some evenings for a little play. She gets spooked very easily though, and normally ends up running away upstairs before long.

My oldest DCat but the latest arrival to the household, likes to sleep most of the time, but he enjoys around 10 minutes of play in the evening. He likes the little balls and the stick thingy toy - I can never remember what they're calledGrin

All the time. That girl of mine ain't right though! She's a loon who doesn't realise she's a cat. I don't know what she thinks she is, a puppy maybe, but her being raised by hand and bottle fed made her a little... out there.

In our house the whole family has a silly habit of hiding round corners or behind doors and jumping out at whichever family member is passing. The cat does the same. She hides, leaps out in a big star jump and slaps your leg (no claws) and runs away a bit to wait to be chased. It's random throughout the day.

She is about 6 years old.

As often as she wants to.
She likes a good long play in the morning and bits and bobs throughout the day.

We all do as we're told or we get our feet bitten 😁

@RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds your cat sounds like my idiot, also hand raised with dogs (the foster lady said her own cats will be glad of the rest the day I collected her Grin). At 9:30 every evening she comes into the living room to wait for me to go to bed. When I get up to go I have to stand at the bottom of the stairs to wait for her, as soon as my foot hits the bottom step she runs up like she’s being chased and stands on the landing waiting for me. She throws herself upwards against the bannister and I have to stand at the top of the stairs and try to ‘get’ her, once I’ve stroked her tummy she chirrups and runs into the bedroom and under the chest of drawers. Every. Single. Night.

I think she’s missing a few connections Grin

Ha ha ha! @FlyingFlamingo cats are crazy creatures. My girl has her habits where DH and I just cannot ignore them. If she does a bolt onto the back of the settee and puts her feet on her radiator bed, I'll shout DH through and he has to come and chase her into her bed and then he grabs her from underneath whilst she tries to attack him through the fabric. It's really silly but it's her "thing" she loves. And it doesn't matter if DH is halfway through making dinner or something, he'll turn the cooker rings down and drop whatever he is doing to do as she commands.
She also likes to put her claws out and try to run on the laminate flooring. The claws make her run on the spot like a cartoon character and then she'll suddenly get traction and bolt.
She also runs onto wet mopped floors so she can slide. She does doughnuts in the living room.

Ours also loves nothing more than when I mop, she chases the mop and also slides around on the wet floor. She also sits in the kitchen sink when I start cooking until I switch the tap on so she can catch the drips, and if anyone starts running a bath she sits on the towel shelf and monitors us, I thought cats were meant to dislike water Confused but I’m not sure she knows she’s a cat Grin
