Worming advice- tapeworm!

Hello,

Will ring and check with my vet tomorrow but I've just treated my cat with Felisecto spot on and realised that the reason the poor bugger still has worms despite our regular treatment using this supposed cure-all is that it doesn't actually treat tapeworm!

Can anyone tell me whether I can use an additional dewormer (there are several specifically for the treatment of tapeworms) alongside the Felisecto prescribed by our vet?

We have young children so I'm a bit concerned that he's just littering worm bits all over the house. He's now banished to outside and the garage until we can get him sorted and I feel heartily sorry for him. No wonder he's always hungry!

Any help greatly appreciated.

My vet prescribes profender and that covers tapeworms. They have stronghold plus for fleas and other worms. I'm just told to leave at least 1 week gap between using them

You need to cover for tapeworm every 6 months. The felisecto will cover groundwork.

Yeah I use stronghold plus monthly and profender every 6 months. When they are in the same month the doses should not be given at the same time - my vet advises a 1 week gap

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate it. Any tips for how to keep the cat/house clean in the interim? I'm really surprised that my vet hasn't recommended this before, they know he hunts (we live rurally and he has free access outdoors) so surely it should be on their radar? Saying that, I've had cats for the last 20+ yrs and have never had this problem before.

You can buy tapewormer at the Pet shop, avoid Johnson's or bob Martin's and go for something like droncit. Alternatively pick up quantex from your vet. Fleas carry tapeworm so controlling fleas usually covers that, just needs extra every 6 months.

You can vacuum the cats bed, and give the cat a bath....I'm joking, do not bath your cat !!!

Ensure kids either don't touch cat or stringent hand washing.

Expect to see more segments after worming as the fuckers die
