Is this common during heat cycles?

My cat is 10 months old and was due to be spayed as lockdown hit. She is now in her second heat cycle and she was sick once yesterday and once today. Very very small amounts. She is off her food but still picks at it every now and then. We had a mix up with her food and she had a sudden change for a couple of days. Could that be the cause instead? She doesn't seem to have diarrhea.

Poor thing, I feel so sorry for her.

I'm guessing you're in a flat - otherwise you wouldn't have been able to leave it nine months? I honestly don't know what's normal in heat cycles, apart from it makes cats act very strangely. I would just keep an eye for now and make sure every window is firmly closed. Cats in heat will try to escape from the smallest, highest gap, even ten floors up.

Yes it could be the change in diet.

You poor thing, I feel for you. I’ve only seen one heat cycle and their so loud. How can one tiny female make so much noise. You must have every tom in the county sniffing around your house.

No we're in a house. She's been a very skittish wee thing and vets advice was to wait until she was settled with us. She was booked in, we were so close!
No toms lurking thankfully! She's an indoor cat and hasn't been around the doors and windows, just me for lots of cuddles as that helps her relax.

Well be very careful not to have any open doors and windows while this goes on. Even if she doesn't go out you'll have toms getting in!

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 18/04/2020 19:05

Everything is kept firmly shut. I hope this doesn't last too long. My poor baby!

It might be worth calling the vets as I believe some neutering is happening now. Not 100% guarantee as obviously they need to be staffed and there needs to be enough of the anesthetics etc to go around

Our branch of vets has closed but I believe both in the area are owned by the same people. I have sent an email but will call the other branch tomorrow to be sure. Even if they aren't performing them it will give me peace of mind that she's ok and will be ok.

First time owning a cat, I never expected to fall for her as much as I have 😂

She'll sit on my lap and lift it until she gets a scratch under it Smile
