Cat acting strange

HHi all,

My 2 year old boy seems to be acting very strange. He normally wakes me up around 5am every morning by jumping onto the bed and cuddling in to his blanket but today he didn't do that, he also didn't come downstairs for breakfast. We found him in a cat bed in the corner of the room but very lethargic and breathing very fast. I tried calling him over, and shaking treats (normally his fave) but he has no interest! I tried picking him up to check him over but he started meowing and growling.. any ideas?

Has he hurt himself in the night? Is he poorly? Do i see how he goes or take him to the vets?
He's mainly an indoor cat so hasn't had a fight outside or anything.

I would take him to the vets just in case. He would have an internal problem or something. His ears might be playing up or teeth, that tends to put them off a normal routine.

Definitely take him to vet. Better safe than sorry and it sounds like he's poorly

nearlynermal · 12/03/2020 06:23

I think definitely vet, see if he's running a temperature

Veterinari · 12/03/2020 06:44

Has he urinated?

He's showing moderate-severe pain signs which can indicate a blocked bladder
Vet check ASAP

He does feel quite warm to touch! I’m not sure about the urinating thing, we both work full time so we tend not to see them use the trays often anyway but i don’t remember when i last saw him use it! He had a problem like this before with a UTI type thing so maybe it’s the same sort of thing again?

This happened to my cat a few months ago. She just didn't move for 12 hours. Would hardly even raise her head. I got her to the vets and she was running a really high temp. No other signs of infection other than the temp but something was clearly wrong. She had antibiotics but she still wasn't picking up so I ended up at the emergency vets with her a couple of nights later as I was just so worried. They ran bloods and nothing sinister came back, just a big infection so more antibiotics were given.

Get him to the vets ASAP. It's especially worrying with boys as they can get blocked urethras which are very serious. I hope he gets better soon.

So a quick update, as i was on the phone to the vet telling them i haven’t seen him pass urine for a while he went and bloody did it 😂 but all jokes aside he’s booked in for 10:15. Wish us luck! Thanks for the advice!!

Was about to say straight to the vet but just seen latest update! Good that he’s had a wee, fingers crossed for him

thecatneuterer · 12/03/2020 08:49

Glad you're taking him. Breathing fast is a bad sign and means an urgent appointment is needed. I hope he's OK.

overnightangel · 12/03/2020 16:08

What did the vet say @oldestchild90s

oldestchild90s · 12/03/2020 16:17

They said he had a high temperature, a fever and was dehydrated. They checked his lungs and heart and everything but they were normal! They couldn’t decide what it was but they gave him antibiotics and fluids on a drip then sent him home with anti-inflammatories! Hopefully he’ll be back to his old self soon. Thanks for asking 😻🥰
