New kitten not eating

Our new kitten is 11 weeks old, been here 1 week. He is lovely, friendly, happy ... but not eating very much! I’ve tried the food he was on before (gourmet) as well as a variety of other brands and the food the vet recommended (royal canin). He is interested in our food but it’s mostly vegetables so doesn’t really want it (I tried putting some in his bowl)

When I put new food down he nibbles a tiny bit and then leaves it - either wet or dry. Is this normal?

Not really, is he getting heavier?.

Does the vet agree he’s 11wks?.

Are you leaving him food down all the time? Many cats are "grazers" in that they eat small amounts many times in a day; mine are like this, and supper can take them all night to eat with breakfast lasting until after lunchtime. I put dry down ad lib, and they nibble on that at frequent intervals too.

@Fluffycloudland77 yes the vet agrees,
But did say he was a bit thin

@allergictoironing ok thanks - perhaps that is what is happening. So maybe I should leave a bit more down for him ...

You can leave the dry down 24/7 as it won't go off or anything - doesn't even seem to attract flies in summer. Just make sure there's plenty of water down for him too.

Presumably he's using his tray OK?

Does he drink kitten milk and have you tried plain chicken cut into tiny pieces?

When my kitten stopped eating I was only worried when she refused the nice stuff! She has always wolfed down plain roast chicken, ham, cat milk or cat yoghurt.

And she is a grazer, will take hours to eat a portion of wet cat food.

Could you try sprinkling some crushed cat treats (or a bit of food topper - ours have liver flakes) to entice him?
