I have a budget of about £200...... what can i do?? Can i do somthing with £200?

Ive just moved into a house near a main road ( didnt get to choose the house, was in temporary housing ) and im worried my cats will get run over

How can i make my garden cat proof? I also have a 5 and 3 year old so a catio or cattery style wont work really as doors get left open a lot here, how can i make the garden secure so the cats cant get out?

Weve been here 2 days and their already crying to go out ( the cats, not the kids Grin ) and i feel really bad, can someone point me in the right direction? If doable with £200 Blush

My garden is medium sized, more like a very large yard with tall fences all around so im hoping theres some sort of cheap roof netting i could get that can also be easily removed if gutters or pipes need tending to or somthing ( renting )

I just searched for “mesh netting”, thinking about the stuff my dad used to put over veg:

He used to sort of staple it to wooden posts with a tool thing. Might something like that work?

You can google diy cat proofing, pet forums will come up with advice. There’s a type of bracket you can buy to attach the net then you’d need cable ties & netting.

It is doable.

Swap the cats for Persians who don't jump or climb?! (Joking)

You can fix sheets of smooth plastic to the top of the fence to stop them grabbing onto the fence too.

How many metres is your boundary OP? There's things like Protectapet that you can order and install yourself although it might be a bit ££ if it's a longer boundary.

DH cat proofed our garden. He had the brackets made at a local metalwork place and bought the netting from a garden centre, although he is going to change it for something stronger (not that Harry climbs!). I can't remember how much it cost but I'm sure it wasn't more than £150-£200.

Google Sanctuary SOS and ProtectaPet to see how the catproofing companies do it - basically angled brackets and very strong (but not rigid) netting that overhangs inwards.

I've seen people do a DIY version with restraint straps in place of the brackets and netting from ZooPlus attached all around the garden with sufficient overhang (cats can't climb backwards). If you already have solid fences all around then it should be doable - just be mindful of any points where they could jump so garden furniture, window sills, shed, of course any trees etc. The proper catproofing brackets are much stronger than the restraint straps so you will need to monitor your cats to start with to see how determined they are to escape.

My neighbour has upside down guttering to keep their cats in.. on the inside of all the fences and walls.
