Would you leave your cats for 3 weeks?

We have the opportunity of extending our 2 week holiday to a 3rd week. We have an excellent cat sitter and our cats are indoors. But im wondering if 3 weeks is just too long?

I would but ours are used to being left and wouldn't care!

GinnyStrupac · 25/02/2020 15:39

If they are well, happy, good company for each other and well cared for, yes. We cats sat for friends for (much) longer than 3 weeks.

Luzina · 25/02/2020 15:41

Why not? As long as they are well cared for I doubt they'll be bothered.

saraclara · 25/02/2020 15:42

I have in the past.

TipseyTorvey · 25/02/2020 15:45

Our cat sitter is amazing and we ask her to come twice a day because our cat is so old now. She sleeps most of the time anyway so I think it's fine. Less stressful than a cattery at her age anyway.

Timeforatincture · 25/02/2020 15:47

We're going for 4!

My dad will be living at my house for 10 days, DD for an additional week, and a neighbour's teenager will cover the rest for a few quid. The cats can come and go as they please.

I wouldn't leave them for that length of time with someone just popping in twice a day, but with someone in residence for most of the period they will have company and cuddles.

I think ive more or less talked myself out of it since i posted. They're very sociable and love human contact so I think 3 weeks could be pushing it. I dont have anyone bar the car sitter to come and see them.

I understand - one cat wouldn't eat until she had had a cuddle and chat, but then she was perfectly happy. Could you ask the cat sitter to have her tea break or lunch with them, stay a little longer - pay her a little more?

Plump82 · 25/02/2020 20:19

She's a full time cat sitter and dog walker. I'm pretty sure she spends quite a bit of time here and she loves the cats but she needs to fit her other customer's round them

I would. DH nope! He doesn't sleep well unless sandwiched between his felines 🙄. He would fret and worry about them - eating enough? Not having cuddles? I would want to kill him. So not worth it.

FAQs · 25/02/2020 20:22

I doubt the cats have any concept of time.

GinnyStrupac · 26/02/2020 13:41

Am I the only one a little bit in love with @Izzadoraduncancan 's DH?

ListeningQuietly · 26/02/2020 13:49

Cats do not care.
So long as they have food, water and a selection of sleeping places they cope.
Have a fantastic holiday.

Madcats · 26/02/2020 14:38

OP do you live somewhere even vaguely touristy?
My Facebook keeps getting bombarded with adverts for "Trusted Housesitters"

Plump82 · 26/02/2020 16:14

Madcats no not touristy in the slightest!
FAQs id have to disagree. My cats know exactly what it's 2am to wake me up lol!!

I did. He is an older cat though. I had someone come in once a day. He was fine. When I came back he just looked at me and went on his Merry way. I think he likes the peace and quiet if I’m honest.

Izzadoraduncancan · 27/02/2020 22:20

Ah @GinnyStrupac, I woke this morning to him surrounded by 3/4 of our cats. One is quite temperamental and lives life even more on his terms then most cats. The other two are just dopey cuddlebums. We have a pixiebob (temperamental feline, but gorgeous to look at and so cat), a rag doll (dope), ginger boy (another dope) and calico girl (just a lady).
