Not eating after spay

My 7ish month old girls were spayed yesterday (bit late as got them at 5-6 months and had to do both vaccinations first). They were very drugged and wobbly when they got home last night so didn’t eat much (understandable). Gave them 100g of smilla for breakfast- bravecat ate all of hers, scaredcat has barely moved from under our bed since she got home. Put the food under the bed and she ate a few mouthfuls. Have loxicam to give them this evening- advised to mix with small amount of tuna. Bravecat ate hers in the kitchen then went up to try and eat scaredcat’s who’d only had a couple of bites. Shut bravecat out of the bedroom (litter tray in the ensuite plus water on a tray in the bedroom at all times for her needs!!). Still hadn’t eaten it an hour later so I added a pouch of her favourite tuna and mackerel pouch but she’s still only eaten a bit more.

Think I’ll have to bin it at bedtime because Bravecat sleeps on the bed so I can’t keep her out overnight and I don’t want her to overdose. Scaredcat uses under our bed as her safe space, spent most of her first month with us there and has retreated there for days after each vet visit. She’s usually a good eater so this isn’t like her. Worried lack of pain killers will make her even less likely to eat. I have human food tinned mackerel which they both like usually- am I best to try and bribe her to eat the loxicam tomorrow evening in that? Coat ham with it? Cheese?

They also both escaped the medical vests within seconds of getting home from the vet so that’s another worry. Got cones today but they don’t seem to be licking the stitches so loathed to upset them further. They’re very subdued but purring when stroked so I hope they aren’t suffering.

Try the fish, I would.

I had my two 8 month olds spayed yesterday! They both cane home in their cones and quickly took them off 🤦🏼‍♀️ but we have been giving them the Royal Canin gastrointestinal pouches and plain cooked chicken. I have to be honest, when my other cat got spayed she had such a bad reaction to the meloxaid pain killers that i couldn't bear to give my little two the pain killers, but saying that they have been completely normal and bright in themselves since the op!
I would maybe give it another day, see if ham, a little soft cheese, chicken or cooked fish helps with the stuff mixed in.

Hope things get better 🤞🏻

It takes a few days for them fully to regain their appetites after surgery. If they're eating a bit, that's fine at this stage.

Definitely try the loxicam in the most tempting thing you have.

If they're not licking the stitches, no vest should be fine - just monitor them as you're already doing. It will be very obvious if the wounds become infected - this happened to my first cat when she was discharged with no collar/jacket and settled down to lick her wound as soon as she got home - by the next morning she was growling and barely moving - soon sorted with antibiotics, wound drain and the collar of ultimate indignity.

DD gave them a felix pouch each for breakfast but they only ate about 1/4 each. Used a teaspoon each of tinned mackerel this afternoon with the loxicom mashed in and they both ate it straight away (scaredcat had hers under the bed) so that seems to be the way forward to get it into them. Have given them some Feringa kitten food now which they seem to be eating. Fingers crossed!
