Cat really needy.

I have a four month old baby and my cat has been fine up until now. I'm not sure if it's because i spend a lot of time home now because I'm on maternity leave. Basically if I leave the house for the day when I get back she's so needy and she spends the following day wanting to sit on me all the time and follows me round constantly.

I'm worried she's now stressed when we leave her. In June I will be returning to work and I'm worried how she'll be on her own.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can make her feel more secure whilst we're out?

SpongeCat goes through fazes of this. Feliway plug ins are great. Not cheap, but they work miracles in our house. Maybe just to use whilst the cat adjusts?

I do temp working when my health is good enough. Boycat has learned to recognise the routine that means I'm going out for the whole day & follows me round the house when I'm getting ready crying for the first week of every assignment. He does settle down after a few days though.

Have you tried giving the cat attention in bursts? Eg ash cat got stressed when I stopped work last year I was falling over him he was getting up on the side in the kitchen (he isnt allowed up there) etc etc I found if I picked him up and really cuddled him (yes he does like this) he would go and lie down and stop tripping me up for a couple of hours before checking in on me again

I might look at getting some feliway! I do try to give her bursts of attention but she's a weird cat she loves climbing up on me on her terms but hates being picked up. As soon as DS goes down for his nap o try spend quite a bit of time stroking her and playing with her but she's usually still the same. Hopefully feliway will help!!

I am having this problem, our DD is six months now and the cat is a nightmare. Always moaning and following me around, I try to be patient but it’s getting annoying now. Will try feliway also!

Throw her a bag of valerian tea for a little high from time to time. I just remove the string and let them have their way with the bag on the floor, all you need to do is then clean the rest from the floor. And give her a bit of attention, cats are creatures of routine and the new baby is probably a reason for the neediness as it's a disruption to their household.
