Sudden appearance of bleeding bald patch on cat's neck

We have just discovered a circular bald patch about an inch across on the side of our cat's neck, has been bleeding by the look of it the fur. Very pink, not weeping I don't think. She's a mainly indoor cat (allowed out but isn't that bothered). I will take her to the vet tomorrow but just wondered what it could be?

Ringworm?.

Flowersmakemyday · 17/02/2020 23:02

Have you recently applied flea treatment? Our cat, after years of no problems, suddenly developed this type of symptom, which then scabbed and spread quite quickly. Needed to take her to the vet for treatment.

Mine gets "hotspots" (more common in dogs) - it's some sort of skin infection / wet dermatitis - looks alarming as can spread very quickly and double size in 24 hours. Could it be this? The vet gives me some cream which dries it up and usually sorts it out within a week.

Sounds like ringworm.

Twillow · 19/02/2020 17:18

Looks 'cleaner' than the images of ringworm. Hotspot looks very much like it - she could be stressed as we have a pesky dog that barks at her Sad

If it’s on the side of her neck can she reach to lick it?

Lonecatwithkitten · 20/02/2020 06:18

Hotspot is a descriptive term in most cases allergy is the underlying cause. You need to see a vet, but they are highly likely to want to investigate further. The cats ( I have one) require lifelong management and you control the condition not cure it.

I had a cat many years ago that used to get similar symptoms - it was apparently allergies. I had to take her for treatment every 3 months.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/02/2020 06:49

Did you take her to the vet?.

Twillow · 24/02/2020 13:07

Hi, it's looking quite a bit better thanks. Don't savage me, but I didn't take her to the vet as a few unexpected car bills last couple of months mean I'm wary of the £99 bill that-doesn't-quite-make-it-to-insurance.
(Like the ear drops for the dog.) Anyway, I did some reading up, got some Leucillin antiseptic skincare and some ointment. Fingers crossed.
Of course I will go to the vet if it gets worse.
