5-10 minutes here. Just when I've got my book out and turned the blanket off. Ive already spent ten minutes making my herbal tea and asking them if they want to go to bed. They never come in together either. Its such a faff. The second one is usually ten minutes after the first and by then my bed has started to go cold. Little sods.

In summer, you'll be desperately wishing that they weren't out (or is it only Dolly who likes 'out') and safely in bed with you :)

Pascha · 08/02/2020 23:32

Mine don't come upstairs at night...

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 08/02/2020 23:40

idiot cat has been banned from the bedroom here, his shenanighans were becoming totally intolerable

sleeping on my head, snorting in my ear, constant plucking, ostentatious grooming regimen, intermediate cat gymnastics between the bed and dressing table, noisy drinking of my water....
all doubled up to include dh, and the resultant nuisance of a restless husband as well Angry

so the bedroom door is now closed....he tends to come up about 10 minutes after I have gone to be and makes an attempt to prise the door open, does a bit of sad lonely yowling and then strops off when I say "Go away, there is no one in here"

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/02/2020 23:42

We just leave the door slightly ajar they do come in and out I think but are no bother.

EachandEveryone · 08/02/2020 23:42

I looked out of the window today and saw Dolly up a try that branches out over an old mucky canal. I nearly fainted i didnt know she could climb. One of the branches could easily snap and that would be the end of her. Theres nothing i can do though. That cat just wants to be out amongst it all shes so nosey.

Mine are like yo yo's.
Sometimes they are in my bed gefore me but usually it goes like this...
I go up and keep my door ajar as I know they both will be waitling outside so I will eventually cave in and let them in..
The routine is kitten 1 will come in and lay on me for a while pushing the door ope n slightly..so I close it. Cat 2 will come in and he stands on both legs and pushes the door wide open. I have to get up and close it, this goes on about 20 times driving me insane. Inbetween they also chase each other around and under the bed.
Spend the rest of the night trying to get comfortable under the weight of either. Wake up during the night to cats sticking their heads in my face, trying to get under the duver, sleeping on top of me.
Wake up in the morning to both cats sitting staring in to my face, or sitting on my back.
A nightmare.

violetbunny · 09/02/2020 01:35

Ours always beat me to it, so they can hog the best parts of the bed 😂

YesItsMeIDontCare · 09/02/2020 01:38

Every door in our house is permanently open "a cat width".

sashh · 09/02/2020 01:48

About 5 seconds.

She mostly curls up and goes to sleep, but some nights she wants to sleep on me.

If I go to the loo in the night I might find her in the centre of the bed.

Gingerkittykat · 09/02/2020 02:09

Cat is by the side of the bed waiting for me to get in. He waits for me to stop wiggling and jumps onto my hip and settles down till I move around too much.

The only door that gets shut in the house is the bathroom door and there is scraping and meowing after a couple of minutes as both cats want to get in.

ladybird69 · 09/02/2020 02:11

My cats run a couple of circuits of my house at around 100mph when I’ve just dropped off at 3am. (This includes using me as a springboard into the hallway) This is after the ‘I want a wee, I want a drink, I’m hungry’ Routine. I’m shattered and then when I get up they have the cheek to stay in bed snoring! They are worse than children. When I finished my building work I’m going to lock them into the spare room So that I can get some sleep. I have threatened to shut them out in the garage.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/02/2020 02:22

Snorg comes and goes, she's no trouble though. Snuggles up and sleeps.
Cheddar takes herself to bed about 6pm. She sleeps on the other pillow. She does not sit still. She's all over me, slobbering and making biscuits. She's a pest!
I tried shutting the door, but the late Fatty just head butted it open.

Drivemybluecar · 09/02/2020 08:07

Do you think it is different the older they get. My boy is 11. He comes in the evening. He comes and goes a few times in the night. Most of the time he sleeps on the armchair in my room for the entire night and just sleeps. Age?

ofwarren · 09/02/2020 08:13

I leave the bedroom door open for mine so she comes and goes. The odd night she gets shut out though when she won't stop the annoying plucking sound.

SagelyNodding · 09/02/2020 08:25

My cat is still quite young and exhausts himself during the day playing outside. He generally goes to our bed before us! When we come up he wakes up for a fuss then slots himself between us-the least annoying snuggler ever Smile (and far less farting and snoring than my dh...)

RandomMess · 09/02/2020 08:27

Ours are shut away, 3 doors between us and them only way to get any sleep!

Bluerussian · 09/02/2020 08:34

Get a cat flap. I know some people say that means other cats will come in but, frankly, not all cats are familiar with flaps or like them. I've lived in my house since 1984 and we have always had cats (only one now), and only two other cats have entered. One lives next door and likes my cat, they actually play together but if she sees me, much as I like her, she runs out.

The other one is my cat! He was a very young stray tom, complete with smell! I'd come down in the morning and he'd be sitting under the table. I'd say in a loud voice, "You cheeky thing!" and he would bolt out. However he was around for ages and one day I spoke nicely to him and he rolled over on his back. Then he was injured, we tried to find owners to no avail so took him to vet for treatment, had him neutered, vaccinated, wormed and flea'd and that was about thirteen years ago. He's gorgeous.

We always let the cats come upstairs to bed with us, I know it isn't advised but when we had little ones they'd miaou and scratch up the carpet outside the bedroom door. They were no trouble, quite cosy really. We always made sure they were worm and flea free.

StCharlotte · 09/02/2020 10:22

My two are banned by DH from the bedroom Sad I may have to get divorced.

Unmentionablesandfluff · 09/02/2020 10:32

I can’t imagine our two being banned from the bedroom, they even supervise showers!

One sits at the bottom of the stairs glaring at us until we realise it’s bedtime. She then enjoys a heavy patting session that feels like feline massage. She has a bed on the window sill which she eventually moves to in the middle of the night... but any nighttime visits to the loo requires the human to pay penance of another patting session. Number two tends to sleep in the crook of our knees, the selection of human based on the outside temperature (we know if it’s me, there’s a frost outside). He does get up and stroll around in the middle of the night and chat away. We think he’s doing a security perimeter check and informing us all is safe and secure Grin

RandomMess · 09/02/2020 11:04

There was a battle of wills with ours hence 3 doors so I couldn't hear the complaints too loudly!

They actually ask to be put to bed and get glowered at if we are particularly late... they have a litter tray, water, food and ample sleep spots to choose from. Often they don't eat any food until the following morning so they are clearly programmed to have their big sleep and rarely use the litter tray overnight. Mostly if I had a super long lay in tbh.

Girl cat would like to sleep attached to my head, boy cat next to one of us and DDog in the middle getting FOMO is she thinks someone else has a better spot...

Just no, I wouldn't be getting any sleep!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/02/2020 15:20

I've never banned a cat from the bedroom before...I really miss him when he's being good, I love the snuggly snuffly purring, but really, it was like having a newborn again with his nonsense, I was on my knees and grey with exhaustion from the malarky

I even bought a black out blind in the hopes that if it was dark he wouldn't be the big fat twat, but no, he just tried to shred it to chatter at the birds

I still have the blind up though and i LOVE the darkness!

violetbunny · 09/02/2020 23:31

I'd rather ban DP from the bedroom than DCats.
He knows it too!! GrinWink

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/02/2020 20:52

Our male (and his muddy little paws) Hmm likes to lie on DH side of the bed but he walks over my side to get to it. Our door is always open.

Our female likes DD room and scratches at the carpet and door at night . I often go to the loo and "accidentally" budge the door open (to save my carpet , obvs)

They have open access to the small bedroom and share the chair .

twinnywinny14 · 10/02/2020 23:31

Mine sleeps in the same place at he end of the bed on my side, every night. Then between 4-5am will ask to leave 😂

EachandEveryone · 12/02/2020 23:46

Well tonight she’s surprised me. She’s not only there before me but she’s at my end so I’ve got about a third of me bed. She’s pretty adorable though. In sleep.
