People involved with rehoming cats, be honest with me please

We had a slightly offputting experience yesterday on the phone with one local cat rescue lady who implied she would virtually never be inclined to rehome a cat to a family with children under 8yo. Ifeel a little demoralised now.

My children are 9 and 7. Is this the general way, do we stand much of a chance?

CP can be very odd. As pascha says, different branches can have very different rules, our local one is run by a loon. Even the helpers who come out and home check say she is too picky. This particular lady won't rehome: with children, with working parents, with elderly people, people who live near roads, near railways, near fields (they might come into contact with wildlife!), and insists you pledge to keep them in overnight and in a cat-proofed garden. Funnily enough, they have real trouble re-homing their cats.

As I mention upthread I volunteer at a CP adoption centre rather than a branch. The centres are definitely more flexible and I have heard mention of people in the branches being difficult. Most aren't from what I gather and they work with the adoption centres to get the cats homed.
