How long does a castration operation take?

Our DCat is being castrated tomorrow. Vet has asked me to drop him at 9am and that they'll call me when he's ready to be collected.

Please could those who have had this done, tell me roughly how long it would take? The vet is rather vague, understandably. But till help me to plan my day if I have even an approximate idea.

Thanks!

I collected mine mid afternoon. They wait until they are awake and have eaten without puking I think

The actual op doesn’t take long at all.

It’s where they are in the queue, then they have to be monitored waking up, eating, pooing etc. Standard to take them in in the morning pick them up afternoon/evening.

Most boy cats are fine and don’t appear to notice!! There’s no stitches or aftercare really. My latest two were bouncing around as if nothing had happened to them.

I think they all get dropped off first thing popped in the back I was told to ring at a certain time and they told me they were ok to collect (I had the boys done at the same time so they were both too sore to scrap)

It’s usually mid afternoon when you pick up.

Thank you for your replies. That's good to know that he will be monitored while recovering before I pick him up.

It's really going to depend on what other pets need operations that day.

I dropped boycat off at 8:30, they phoned me to say he was recovering well at 9:30 and I collected him at 1pm.

A week or 2 later, girl cat didn't have her op until midday (they sedated her lightly and popped Classic FM on for the morning) and we collected her late afternoon.

Your kitten might hurtle about like a lunatic for most of the night. ....

The op itself takes less than ten minutes - more like five or six minutes in our clinic. However there will be a wait for him to 'go under' and another wait for him to come round. Most practices just have a standard drop off and pick up time and then they are queued for the actual procedure, as mentioned above.
