Possibly injured cat hiding under a huge bush

My boy has been out all night, I went out calling for him this morning, and about an hour ago I found him hiding deep under a bush in the lane behind our house.
He's usually a big character full of chatter, but he's being quiet and not wanting to come out.
He has got into fights before, and I saw a new cat about yesterday, and when he's been sore before he's hidden behind the sofa.
I've thrown a couple of dreamies in his direction and he has eaten them, and changed position, but is showing no signs of wanting to come out.
How do I get him out?!?

Tie your hair back & scruff him, he’ll go limp and you can pull him out.

Not ideal cat handling but needs must.

Council dog warden /shelter may have a pole you can borrow..

Get an old towel and chuck over him, wrap and grab. You need to get him out ASAP to check for injuries. He may have been hit by a car. Then emergency vet appointment.

Got him!
I remembered that we have a pair of loppers, so cut down a lot of the bush around him, as he was well out of arms reach,
and then used the towel method. Unfortunately he initially escaped through a fence at the back which meant that I had to do a dash along our lane and back down the next one, but I got him.
He's not happy, he's limping through his back legs, but he's got himself upstairs to my daughter's bedroom (his favourite place) and I'm having a well earned coffee before a vets appointment at 2.30.
Thanks for the help, it was very much appreciated!

Hope vets appointment goes well and it's not too awful a news x

BovaryX · 13/01/2020 14:00

Good luck with vet. Maybe he has been bitten in a fight? That can cause a nasty abscess. Let us know how it goes with vet

Aww hope he is ok my floaty one pulled a muscle over Christmas he was limping and shouting when he stood up he just needed a week of metacam and he is back to his usual self (we call him floaty because he is thinner than his brothers and looks ethereal when he jumps)

MustardScreams · 13/01/2020 14:10

Hope it’s nothing too serious. Poor thing.

Want2beme · 13/01/2020 15:28

Glad you caught him. How is he now?

BlossomCat · 13/01/2020 15:37

We're back from the vets.
As he was a bit fractious (spitty and yowling... ) he wouldn't let the vet fully examine him, but she doesn't think that he has been in an RTA, but may have a fighting injury or strained a muscle.
He's had a Metacam injection, and is on house arrest on oral meds, then back for a review on Thursday.
He's walking about, but slowly and looks uncomfortable 😥
But he's eaten, and I've put the woodstove on, so he can sleep in front of it.

I'm not sure who owns the bush I cut a load of branches out of earlier, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!

That's good news. Cats recover from a bashing pretty quickly, so hopefully he'll be on good form in 24 hours. You have a Brew now.

slipperywhensparticus · 13/01/2020 17:48

Took mine just over a week to recover from his muscle pull
