Cat toileting in the house all of a sudden

Any thoughts on this? She’ll be 2 this summer and we’ve never had any issues at all even when she was a kitten.

We have 2 cats and they have constant access outside and were happily toileting outside for months.

We brought the litter tray back in when it happened a couple of times and she’s still doing it. Will even do it in the same room as me.

She’s going to the vet this week but just wondered if anyone had any idea why she’s doing this and how to stop it?

Our 9 year old cat started randomly weeing on the living room rug, a bath mat and random clothes left on the floor about 3 months ago. It was a real pain as the smell got pretty bad on the rug and it became quite stressful keeping the living room door closed and things picked up all the time.
About two weeks ago, I dragged the rug out side and cleaned it with the hosepipe 😬. Then used bicarbonate of soda all over it when it was dry and febreeze to neutralise the smell.... so far, so good 😅.

Stress? Urine infection? Marking territory if anxious about a visiting neighbours cat?
We switched to wet food to increase fluid intake. Also put that obscuring film on lower parts of windows so he couldn't see other cats despite him having outdoor access - this really helped. And clean with an enzyme cleaner, nothing with ammonia I believe. Stops them going back to the same place. I've tried loads and Urine Off is the only one that has worked. It's quite amazing to watch when he's wee'd on clear plastic storage boxes we have about the place. It instantly dissolved and runs off. Smell gone. Magic. The other products, I had to rub it etc as the urine is sticky.
Establishing if they are spraying vertically or squatting to wee can give more clues.

One our cats started doing this last year. The vet first suspected a urinary infection but it turned out to be kidney disease, despite the fact that he was only 7. He lost a lot of weight but is now doing really well and his weight is back up to more normal levels.

Happened to ours about a year ago.
She's 16 and does it about 6 times a day...

Out of curiosity why would kidney disease cause them to pee out of the tray?

Ours knows what shes doing, cause if you call her before she, she will stop, look at u and go into the tray...

Its lucky shes cute 🐾

Tom cats often go through a regression as they start to mark their territory. It's a teenage thing!

Sorry, I forgot you said she is female!

This happened to us and I thought it was the stress of DD arriving, but eventually the vet did an ultrasound as we had tried everything (enzyme cleaners, different food, additional litter tray, water fountain, feliway- you name it!) and it turned out she had bladder stones. I think the weeing on the floor was her going ‘look, I’m in pain, please pay attention!’.

She had surgery to remove the stones a few months ago and is like a different cat - so chilled out and no more weeing outside the litter tray. She must have been feeling so awful poor thing 😢
