Dcat has just been to the vets for a booster vaccine (sadly couldn't go myself so a family member took him) and has come back saying he's overweight and needs a diet.
Cat has 1 wet pouch a day, half in the morning, half in the evening. And dry food to graze on, eats maybe half a bowl a day? Gets plenty of exercise.
Anyone know how to put him on a diet? Less/no wet food? No dry food? Rearrange the vets so I can talk to them myself?

He's definitely a large cat with a thick coat but I can't say I think he's overweight.
Prepares for flaming about how I shouldn't have let him get this way in the first place

No flaming here, it is very easy for cats to gain weight.

I second phoning your vet and asking about weight clinic.

My fat cat lost weight by strictly measuring out food and not giving into the meows for more. I used dry food only but I'm sure someone will be able to tell you how to calculate how much dry to give if you also give a pouch of wet.

Your cats are gorgeous! The vet said the same about my boy (i would say he's bigger than yours) but then i spoke to another and he said my cat is just dense not fat. I would get a second opinion!

Our cat was 6.5kg when we got her as a rescue. She's now a healthy 5kg. She has been a steady weight for over a year and has 1 pouch and 25g of iams per day now, spread over four meals (half pouch or 12g dry each). When she was needing to lose weight she had 18g iams a day and a pouch. She was never too dreadful fussing for food, but is much more mobile and active now than when she was fat cat.

He terrible cute.

Lose ugly fat by binning that vet.

I had a beautiful, longhaired tuxedo cat who reached 10kg at one stage. Every vet told me that he needed to lose weight, apart from one, who said he was just a very big cat at that stage of his life and he'd eventually slim down. He slimmed down to 5kg toward the latter part of his life and lived to the age of 20. I'm not suggesting this is the case for all "overweight" cats, but I sometimes wonder if some cats are just big at certain stages of their lives?

Your lad doesn't look tubbySmile

He's adorable as he is. Stuff the vet. 1 kg is a lot of weight to loose especially for a cat. He will be miserable on a cat diet

By your description of what you feed him he could hardly become overweight. My cat would easily eat 3 or 4 pouches a day if I let him. Averages about 3 pouches and grazes on dry all day.

So gorgeous Smile

My cat weighs about 4.5kg and I swear 4kg of that is floof. Last time I took him to the vet, she said "oh he looks quite big doesn't he, let's check his weight" and when she lifted him up, he almost flew up out of her arms. She realised he's actually a really small light cat, under a gigantic furry coat Grin
