Disposal of litter waste

Please help! We live rurally with 7 ex feral/rescue cats.
We’ve used Tesco bags doubled up for years to get rid of cat litter waste for when the cats use the trays inside (they can’t stand wet weather and soggy paws, apparently). Trouble is that - rightly so- Tesco don’t use the old type bags now and I’m not sure what to do to collect the foul from the litter trays to take to the bins.
I’m disabled so struggle to carry the trays outside.
What do other people do with their cat 💩? We’ve used the clumping stuff for years which is quite efficient but without the bags I’m at a loss as to how to get it to the bins. I’m 💯 against using plastic if alternatives can be used. Any ideas, Mumsnet cat lovers?
This is my first post so please be kind.

Biodegradable dog poo bags?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 31/12/2019 19:51

I buy Sainsbury's clumping litter in 8kg sacks. I empty the entire bag into the tray and then refill the bag with soiled litter.
I also used to use plastic bags..

TheQueef · 31/12/2019 19:53

An old lidded bucket.
I also used plastic bags.
We use wood litter and I keep thinking I should burn it.

We have a fancy self cleaning tray now but before that we always bought flushable litter and disposed of clumps down the loo. Worlds Best is very good. No plastic needed if you place the tray in the downstairs loo like we did.

scoop/tip it all into compostable bags and goes in our green bin.

cherryblossomgin · 31/12/2019 19:59

We use biodegradable bags and talc to hide the smell.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/12/2019 20:06

I bet amazon or eBay do paper bags.

MoonChilli · 01/01/2020 20:49

That’s a good idea. Thank you!

We use biodegradeable scented doggy bags.

I use the charity bags that come through the door - get at least one a week. Or the bag the litter comes in. Or any other random packaging bag if big enough.

Green bin is a good idea for compostable litter.

I wrap it in either the telegraph or the Times (they are the ones big enough) and then those parcels go in a black plastic sack that goes out once a week. My local authority incinerates all non recyclable waste to provide heat for homes, so I don't feel too bad about it.

JustMyName · 04/01/2020 23:56

I use Worlds Best and flush it down the toilet. It helps that my litter tray is in the downstairs toilet!

happychange · 05/01/2020 00:08

Another one who uses worlds best and flush down the loo!

dementedpixie · 05/01/2020 00:14

Don't think you're supposed to flush cat poo

LittleMissnotLittleMrs · 05/01/2020 01:39

Scoop and wrap in newspaper. Not worlds best but step down. As long as it's had time to clump and is wrapped in ~3 sheets of paper, there's no smell or leakage if it sits around for a few days (no way am I walking to the bin in the wind and rain we've been having!)
