Vet nurse or cattery

If you could either retrain as a vet nurse or start your own cattery, which would you do? I love aspects of both, I've got the land for a cattery at home husband is a farmer. And adore cats (like love love them) and want to be home for the kids, and would love to make it my own, tho love how varied vet nurse might be, and to have all the skills and to really help, but its then it's back to uni, shifts etc. Does anyone do any of these, would love to hear your pros and cons.

Cattery without a doubt.

Cattery if I could afford staff. It’s a tough gig. A lot of cleaning litter trays and working about residents not eating.

Vet nurse would also be tough - I couldn’t cope with the animal ps being out down and the owners who can’t afford to treat them😢

Thanks for your replies! I think the thing holding me back with the cattery is the lack of social /work mates, banter. As I would prob be able to get someone part time, so I get family time. But doubt I would need a team as such. But then maybe that's purrfect, no office politics.

You will probably get some social interaction with your customers? When they do drop offs / collections? Hopefully you will get enough regular customers

Probably one thing to consider is what to do during holidays - will probably be really hard for you to take holidays over the popular period!

Also you would probably need to form a relationship with a local vet. My cattery regularly needs to take guests for treatment.

My little monster became ill the last time she stayed and they had to take her in a few times. The cattery insurance covered all the costs. I assume this happens quite regularly.

I briefly looked into vet nursing before and the salaries seem to be really low, and working hours quite long and on a rota (i.e. you'd probably end up working some evenings/Saturdays etc.). And the training takes a while with clinical placements etc. (understandable but not so easy to combine with family life).

I love working from home so probably the cattery option would be my choice. You could also look into something like retraining as a cat behaviorist alongside to offer consultations for people? More flexible than vet nursing.
