Why has my kitten gone mean 😩

Dcat is 20 weeks and normally an absolute darling. The past week she has been horrible. Running around, scratching, biting. Running so fast over all of us 😂

I don’t know what’s changed? She seems to be more vocal atm, chirrping (??) a lot.

She’s gone from being a lazy so and so all day and having an hour in the morning and evening being hyper to being hyper all day.

Coming into season?

DookofBust · 28/12/2019 19:34

Its a phase OP, mine is the same age and is a little swine at the minute. He was neutered a couple of weeks ago.

Things I do when he starts, hiss at him, clap and say no, distract him with a toy, if all else fails leave the room for a few minutes.

I have started letting him out this week, that seems to wear him out a bit.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/12/2019 19:40

She’s in heat by the sounds of it, batten down the hatches because they are determined to get some when they come into season.

eveshopper · 28/12/2019 19:41

Have you booked her in to be neutered?

dementedpixie · 28/12/2019 19:46

Is she booked in for spaying? It can be done from 4 months

LimpidPools · 28/12/2019 19:49

Yup, she wants to get her end away.

Time to get her booked in at the vets. She's going to be very persistent.

Foxton20 · 28/12/2019 19:52

Ohh does she!! She has been trying to get out of the upstairs window!! It’s on a latch.

She’s booked in on the 17th!

Afrigginggoat · 28/12/2019 20:01

I'd try and advance that booking....

slipperywhensparticus · 28/12/2019 20:06

All will be well after the 17th

Foxton20 · 28/12/2019 20:21

Should I try and bring it earlier? I booked that day as Dh is off work and I don’t drive so he can take her and pick her up lol

GiantKitten · 28/12/2019 21:02

I’d do it sooner if you can. My first 2 kittens (7 years ago) were spayed at 5-6 months & one of them was a nightmare just beforehand

Next female 2 years later, was done at 4 months - no trouble at all!

Foxton20 · 29/12/2019 09:41

Is this why she’s gone off her food too?! She barely eats. Just runs everywhere/over everyone. It’s mad! 😂 it’s so annoying too. Poor Dd has had a lot of scratches just from sitting on the sofa. 😩

Poor Demelza.

happycamper11 · 29/12/2019 09:59

I wouldn't bother bringing it forward if it's inconvenient as long as you can 100% guarantee she won't get out. If this has been going on a week you are probably nearly out the other side anyway as a week is average for her heat to last.

Ginkypig · 29/12/2019 12:19

As everyone else said, if you can stand it I'd not move the appointment forward.

Just to say though my old lady still does this occasionally! (!not recently since the arthritis) Not all day but every so often she just goes mental, screaming and running and leaping metres from floor to couch over me with claws akimbo. I normally just shut her out the room I am in for 10 mins while she burns off the energy.
For some reason it sometimes seems to be linked to her needing the toilet.

Foxton20 · 29/12/2019 12:54

Thank you!

She’s a sweetheart really, we just can’t tire her out lol. Bought her a new da bird and the catit senses thing for Xmas.

She doesn’t sound in heat to me. I breed Ragdoll’s and see cats in heat A LOT. They become overly affectionate, rub against you, howl loudly etc. It sounds like she’s hit that dreaded teenage crazy stage. It’s a phase and she will settle down again. In the meantime lots of playtime to keep her mind and body active. Interactive toys such as laser pointers are perfect!
