Almost feral Tom making lives a misery

We have 2 neutered cats we've had from kittens. They have free reign and use a cat flap. They're almost 4 and all was fine until earlier this year.

A large ginger Tom started coming into our house through the cat flap and eating their food. It's not been neutered and won't let us get near it. It seems to have a home as it's not skinny at all and not eating enough from ours to sustain it. No collar etc.

We're softies and it didn't spray so we've kinda tolerated it. However in the past few weeks it's started to attack our male (we have a brother sister pair) badly and cut his eye.

Not quite sure what to do. We can't afford a radio catflap plus ours have never worn collars. At the moment we're locking the flap and trying to train the cats to wait at the front door to be let in plus have put a litter tray in the bathroom. Any ideas how to get rid of the Tom?

You dont need a collar for a microchip catflap as long as your cats have been microchipped as they work from the chip

Wolfiefan · 15/12/2019 21:28

Microchip catflap. I don’t think they’re hugely expensive at all.
Or cat proof your garden.
It may well be a stray that’s eating at lots of different houses. A cat charity may trap it.

Ooh. I had no idea about the catflap. Thank you! I'll also try the local cat shelter. Fingers crossed!!

Sureflaps are about £70.

gwhizz75 · 15/12/2019 22:23

Sureflap is currently £44 on Amazon OP!

TrainspottingWelsh · 15/12/2019 22:28

Try a photo on local Facebook etc to see if you can find out if it has an actual home, or whether it's stray and you're just one of many places it's eating at.

PestoPlatypus · 15/12/2019 22:39

Sureflap sorts this out.
We used to find a neighbour’s cat sleeping on the beds upstairs sometimes & ours too scared to chase it out.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 15/12/2019 23:53

Ordered one tonight from amazon. £44 rather than just shy of £80 so happy days and hope it works!! Thanks all

Best grammatical error ever. Cats that freely reign with absolute freedom and authority. :)

milliefiori · 16/12/2019 08:38

Not a grammatical error @YetAnother Spartacus. Just due acknowledgement of their royal status.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/12/2019 08:42

I did wonder! Grin
