New kitten peeing under sofa!

Hi, I am at a bit of a loss right now. First time cat owner to a 9 week old tabby. I’ve pulled out my sofa to find that he has been peeing under it. There was Literally a puddle of a cat wee. He has been using his litter tray fine, it’s regularly cleaned too so I do not understand why he’s decided to do this.

Also, he decided to sit across my lap (half on sofa) and once he got up I saw a wet patch, so i’m assuming he’s tried to pee on me too!

How do I solve this?

Hi,
I think you should take him to the vet. Where did he come from? How is he in general? Is he eating well? Peeing can be a sign of territorial anxiety. Do you have other pets?

Put a litter box near it and spray where she peed with lemon juice.

Thanks for responses!

Nope, he’s the only pet. When he first arrived was really nervous, shaky etc. But has livened up a lot. Went to a vet visit a few days ago (before I knew he’d be peeing elsewhere) and the vet said he was all good, no signs of any issues.

I’ve cleaned with a pet stain/odour remover but just seen him exploring under the sofa again!

I’ll try the lemon juice, fingers crossed it works

Where did you get the kitten from? Kittens should be in pairs really, or live with an older cat. Have you tried a plug in? Feliway or pet remedy. How many litter trays do you have and have?

Peeing can be a sign of anxiety. Is he from a rescue? Maybe he is still adjusting to his new environment. Does he have toys, scratching post, cat basket? That might comfort him, stuff that is exclusively his

He was bought online. He has got loads of toys, bed and scratching posts. We have only got one litter tray, but like I said, he does use it most of the time and takes enjoyment out of sitting and watching me clean his tray Grin

I don’t want to be critical, but that is really sad when there are shelters and rescues full of cats looking for a home. If he was very distressed when he arrived, that’s also very sad. Poor little chap. I hope he settles in, but if he continues to pee especially when he’s sitting on your lap, I recommend the vet

You need an enzyme spray for where he pees, and possibly another litter tray. How far away is his tray?
