Christmas tree

Is there anyway at all to keep my kitten out of tree? He's getting quite big and I'm worried it's going to come down on him. He won't leave it alone. In fact he's become generally a bit peskier in the last few weeks - climbing more shelves etc.

He'll be going outside soon which will help but what can I do in the meantime? Feliway is plugged in. He gets a decent amount of attention!

Omg how cute is he. No, there is no way to keep him out of it. Just make sure there is nothing breakable on it!

BovaryX · 04/12/2019 11:19

Does he have a scratching post that is large enough to climb? As a distraction? He’s lovely!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/12/2019 11:20

He is adorable.

I’m afraid it’s his tree now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/12/2019 13:06

There is no way you can stop him, they will wait for hours to climb the tree.

Floofffs · 04/12/2019 13:33

I have two kittens this year and the tree is staying in the box!!

goldpendant · 04/12/2019 13:51

Should I take the lights off?

He has tactics. He circles the branches all the way up

Our tree is tied down so Fatboy Leroy can't pull it over. Nothing breakable on it. Hope for the best.

SingingLily · 04/12/2019 13:57

Our two used to do the same. It's a new toy. A Cat Playground. The novelty will wear off.

It's funny while it lasts though Smile

twoturtledove · 04/12/2019 13:58

My cat was exactly the same, eventually gave her one of the cheaper baubles but even 2 years later she still likes to rub herself against it!

Is your boy a british blue? My girl is!

goldpendant · 04/12/2019 13:59

So I'd be worse shutting him out of the living room? He can see it from the kitchen

goldpendant · 04/12/2019 13:59

He's a moggy but dad looked like a Russian blue, and mum is a Snowshoe!

No help here but he is gorgeous Grin

Our tree ( fake pre-lit) will make a tentative, bauble-less appearance next week (we decorate after DS birthday) . I'll try some extra lights to compensate (non twinkly , our boy loves his laser toy) .

I might be back here wailing they'll pulled my tree down expecting soothing headpats .

First Christmas will the Dynamic Duo .

goldpendant · 04/12/2019 15:25

He likes the lights too.

@goldpendant do not shut him out because when he can get to it, it'll cause havoc. He's just inquisitive - all part of owning a cat fun!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 04/12/2019 20:28

No advice to add, just loving those photos! Double cute. [santa]

TroysMammy · 04/12/2019 20:36

I stopped putting up my Christmas tree in 2010 as I had kittens. I never put it up again and after Troy died I sold it. Haribo, nearly 6 months old will thankfully never have the magic or excitement of a Christmas tree. I hated decorating the damn thing so any excuse not to have one is fine.

DookofBust · 04/12/2019 20:40

I have got a four month old kitten and two trees, one is only 4ft small, full of pretty glass things and, this year, high up on a cupboard. He hasn’t bothered with that one. The other one is very accessible and he hasn’t been too bad although I just don’t leave him in either room unsupervised!

DookofBust · 04/12/2019 20:42

🤷🏻‍♀️ He won’t be any worse just because he is shut out!!

twoturtledove · 04/12/2019 21:06

@DookofBust speaking of experience from my cat when I thought keeping her out was wise. It made her more excited.

KittenVsXmastree · 05/12/2019 21:46

How long has my tree got in an upright position given its extra accessory???

Old cat never climbed.... I'm not used to this!
