Can a farm cat survive in a city?

I know I am overthinking this, but I would appreciate any opinions.

A cat from a close relative's farm was rescued (with most of the colony) in the spring/summer this year. She is about a year old and had just had five kittens.

The cat is friendly, but had always lived outdoors. She was spayed, fostered and then happily re-homed with a loving family in our local city.

Unfortunately, about three weeks after being re-homed in September/October, she went missing. There may have been a few sightings of her around playing fields and industrial estates, but no positive identification.

I know the cat is an accomplished hunter and has lived outdoors for most of her life, but what are her chances of still being alive?

I apologise for the direct question, but I just wonder if, despite her friendliness, she should have been re-homed in a more 'outdoor' setting with others from her colony.

Poor girl.

I don't know about the transition from farm to country, but we have a feral cat living, apparently happily, in some bushes near us in zone2. We and other neighbours have a vague rota of leaving him cat biscuits, and he does a bit of foraging too from the looks of things.

If she's fairly self sufficient she might be able to get enough food to live independently, and if she's friendly she might have charmed people into feeding her (or found somewhere to move into).

I'd be worried about her road sense, though.

Personally from previous experience, I dont think its fair to take a almost fully outdoor cat and force them to be a housecat.

My cat was rescued from a friend who kept him outside for weeks at a time, and although he now much prefers being inside he does get stressed and upset if his ability to go outside is hindered for any considerable period of time. I will note though his idea of going outside is to jump out the window and sit on the roof, and at the furthest he goes to the end of the yard and sits there, although he spends more time outside in the sun in the summer as doesnt particularly like the cold wind and rain.
