You have to raise your finger wave it at them saying 'Do not touch the yarn'. I have trained 5 cats over the years to sit on my lap whilst I crochet and not touch the yarn.

Yarn on your lap in a yarn holder?
Good luck!!

It doesn't get better as they get older. My two elderly Toms regain a new lease of life whenever i get my knitting out!

ladybird69 · 19/11/2019 22:39

I’ve given her an old ball of her own! I’ve considered buying myself a playpen to sit it, but she’d still cry! Guess I’m going to have to get tough and keep telling her no. Or I give her her own needles and yarn 😊

Or you play with her as she’s a kitten? Then she will calm down as she gets older.

hettysdrawers · 19/11/2019 22:52

When one of my cats was a kitten she chewed through the wool connecting my knitting to the ball...hope yours don't have super sharp teeth too!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/11/2019 01:17

This is ridiculous. How can anyone possibly advise without pictures?

Gingaaarghpussy · 20/11/2019 01:57

I put my yarn on a yarn holder and my freaking cat sits there and unravels it for me!

Ifeelinclined · 20/11/2019 02:51

Haha @nocoolnamesleft. Totally agree. We need pics. There can be no advice given without pictures of the offending felines Grin

Mine have got better with age. I tend to have the ball of wool slightly under a blanket or something on my lap so it's not super tempting for them when it moves.

I noticed you said above you've given her an old ball of her own - just be really, really careful as swallowing yarn or string of any kind is extremely dangerous to cats and happens really easily because of the way their tongue is. She shouldn't be given any to play with at all.

ladybird69 · 21/11/2019 20:10

Sorry been trying to upload pics but for some reason it’s not working.
Don’t worry @viccat she’s more destruction than eating! To see her butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, little terror lol
