I’m so worried about my cat!

My lovely cat has today been spayed which has all gone very well and she’s just waking up now ready to be collected but the vet called to say that they found something at the back of her tongue accidentally while she was under.
I couldn’t understand fully what she was saying to me and will get a better explanation when I collect her soon but the vet isn’t sure exactly what it is yet.
She said that it could be something common in cats after having kittens (our cat had her litter 5 1/2 months ago) and we will try steroids in 2 weeks but if that doesn’t clear it up she’d like to do a biopsy.
She said she wouldn’t class it as an emergency but to look out for discomfort when eating and/or drooling.
Our cat hasn’t had any problems eating at all and in fact has gained 0.6kg in the last few weeks and I’ve not noticed and drooling at all but come to think of it she does have slightly smelly breath. I just thought that was just her as she has been checked by the vets twice since having the kittens.
I’m so worried! Does anybody have any similar experience or knowledge please?

I don’t have any experience, sorry. But wanted to say I’ll cross my fingers for you, that she’s fine, I adore my cat, so I understand your worry. Flowers

Thank you very much, I can’t wait to collect her and get her home! I’m so glad they’ve come across it so if it is easy to treat we can do it quickly but if it’s something more serious hopefully we will have caught it early! Just praying that she will be ok and that it is just an infection or something simple like that.

Hopefully the vet will be able to tell you a bit more when you collect her. It's only natural to worry, but actually better to be aware so you can keep an eye on her.

Have you collected her? How is she?

Phycadelicsilhouette · 18/11/2019 22:18

Yes she’s at home all safe and sound now thank you ❤️ She’s absolutely fine except for being furious about having to wear a cone and looking a bit silly with her shaved belly! 😹
No operation or anaesthesia recovery complications!

I’m not so worried now. Slightly but not too much. The vet has said she suspects it to be something called eosinophilic plaque on her tongue. She said her tongue didn’t look quite as it should but she’s not concerned that it’s an emergency as she is eating well and gaining weight post birth and breastfeeding.
She said we can wait and see if it goes or could try steroids in 2 weeks when she’s had time to recover from the op so we will try the steroids.
If they don’t make a difference then we will go for a biopsy to see what else could be the cause but she didn’t seem overly concerned. I think it was the word biopsy and then the dreaded googling that terrified me!
She has a post op check up on Saturday so i’ll ask the vet to check on it again then if she can.

The shed suggestion is very helpful. He could have got stuck inside one somewhere. It’s really distressing when a cat goes missing, but if you go out calling for him and walking around looking, hopefully you will find him. The very best of luck
