What could be wrong with my DCat?

He's been fine all day but has started acting a bit odd the last couple of hours.

He doesn't seem to be very ill (have seen him very poorly with pancreatitis and a big abscess after being attacked) so I'm not sure he's acutely unwell.

He's wandering around meowing(He's not usually talkative) and appears uncomfortable. Hasnt eaten much today. He's been holding his tail at a funny angle and occasionally one of his back legs when he's lying curled on his side. Licking his bum quite a lot. Sometimes he'll crouch a bit and sort of freeze, as if he's trying to go to the toilet... He usually goes to the toilet outside, he was outside earlier but he seems reluctant to go out. Able to jump on and off sofas and beds ok.

He seems in pain when I try and touch his rear end (hips and next to tail) but happy for strokes everywhere else he's normally ok with.

Any ideas?! Obviously will take him to vet tomorrow if he doesn't get better or deteriorates.

Wondering if he could be constipated or have an anal gland problem? Any experience?

Could be constipation or possibly cystitis - one of our male cats (long departed) had a terrible time with cystitis and was really miserable until we got him diagnosed and ultimately changed his diet. Best to get him checked out by a vet.

Thank you, I think it is cystitis. He had a very little accident on the bath mat last night, we brought the litter tray in and he was in and out all evening with a bit of dribble on the floor.

Haven't seen him drinking, he normally has biscuits so going to give him some wet food to get some fluid in him.

Much more himself today and ok with me touching near his tail but still weeing lots and licking himself straight after, so vet first thing tomorrow (our local out of hours vet has unfortunately closed down Sad)

If he is in retention it could be serious and he may need to be catheterised. Male cats can get urethral blockages. I think you should get him to a vet today if at all possible. Pets at Home vets open on a Sunday.

Thanks GRW, he's not in retention as still weeing (have been checking litter box after he's been in it) but will definitely bear it in mind.

If he deteriorates will take him to nearest out of hours vet across London in a taxi but would like to avoid if possible! Very annoying as other ooh vet was only 10 mins away.

He doesn't seem distressed today and more happy with being poked and prodded. No fever (he gets very hot ears) and not lethargic, purring away and eating. Will keep a close eye today and if any changes take him today, otherwise first thing tomorrow.

Urinary tract issues in male cats are a medical emergency and should be treated as soon as possible. If he goes out, it could also be related to an injury if he's injured his tail/back. There must be a closer out of hours vet if you're in London surely (we're in London too and have always had one within about a 15 minute drive), or as a PP said, Vets4Pets inside Pets at Home branches are usually open Sundays.

Closest OOH vet us a 45 minute taxi away.

He has done a very big wee in litter tray and is back to his perky self, eating and drinking well. Wondering if he had a small stone or something which he has passed. Not appearing at all uncomfortable (and he is a sensitive soul) so hopefully he is ok now!
