Pet insurance cover not enough.

I suspect the answer to this is probably "nothing" but I'm wondering if anyone has experience of what happens when their insurance cover isn't high enough?

Ours is capped at £4000 and we've eaten up over £3000 just in diagnosis and treatment of the initial illness. The vet has said DCat will need a kidney removed but until the insurance renews in 3 months we just won't be able to afford it.

I can't face the thought of having to have him pts just because we can't afford to make him better. He's home and not in any pain now but the long term picture isn't good without surgery and I don't know if he'll be well long enough to hold off.

If you are on be if it’s you could try the PDSA. I don’t know if there are any other charities that would help. I’d try and pay the increased premium for as long as I could. Perhaps after the kidney is removed the daily meds won’t be too dear? I don’t know. Perhaps some other cat owners whose cats have kidney probs could advise?

I meant On benefits. Sigh. Stupid spellcheck.

Could you speak to the insurance company and see if you can change the limit?

Will your vet allow you to set up a payment plan for the remainder?
