Stupid cat not scared of fireworks (but I am!)

Does anyone else have a cat that is not remotely bothered by fireworks? Mine was actively fighting to get out to see where the ‘exciting noises’ were coming from despite my constant bribing with treats to keep him with me!!! He is an indoor / outdoor cat who loves a good snuggle but will not be kept inside at any cost😳 Realistically I know he will be fine - he going to be busy on his usual catty patrol of the neighbourhood at night and will eventually come home with the usual leaf/ worm/ mouse gift for me but I’m worried that the fireworks may spook him if they go off whilst he is not expecting them..... although even if they did it probably wouldn’t bother him!

It’s really me that needs to relax isn’t it 😳😳😳

Mine aren’t bothered but they’re still in when it gets dark. If he’s actively trying to find where the noises come from then I absolutely wouldn’t be letting him out to find out.

One of ours used to sit outside on the gate and watch them 🤷🏽‍♀️

Current girl is sitting on windowsill watching from inside, boy cat fast asleep...

Dog is a quivering wreck...

My cats have been sitting on the windowsill spectating. I've been expecting them to whip out little cat sized sparklers any moment, they love it Confused
No way they're going out there though, but they're still kittens really.

Mine was on my knee for a while before his curiosity got the better of him. He tried to get out the flap a few times before shouting and scrabbling at the window. I thought we were ok at first but he started head butting the closed flap so I opened it for him..... I’m not sure he is registering the fireworks at all- he was just wondering why the cat flap was shut !!!

I’ve just spied him sitting in the garden deciding where to go next ..... not at all bothered about the bangs going off around him 😂 luckily he has lots of fields to explore so surely that must be much more exciting to him than a nearby garden with fireworks 😳
I just have to let him get on with it I guess but I still won’t sleep properly until I hear him at his food bowl in the morning !!!

Ours are shit in overnight when we go to bed, far better for the nerves!!! Just part of their routine, they ask to go to bed from about 9pm!

First year I had mine I dosed them up with Zylkene for the season (about a month round here!), and after a few days of being scared they settled right down. 3 years later, they completely ignore it, though Girlcat has been known to watch from the windowsill.

Used to have a cat that happily sat across my shoulders during displays.
I was calm so it was calm.

Does your car freak when you come home from the pub
or is drunk "normal"

for some cats, loud bangs become "normal"

First Guy Fawkes with ours.
We locked them in early on Friday , they were raging when they found the cat door shut Smile then the same Sat/Sun
We keep them in at night anyway , usually they come in when it gets dark.

Our female cat sat on a chair by the glass door gazing out.
But she isn't phased by the vacuum if she's on the stairs and I'm doing the hall, inches from her .
And she had her pointy little face four inches from the shredder when I was using it .

I used to put the pet remedy on and crack open the Zyklene. Until
I realised they weren't bothered. I suspect Cheddar will quite enjoy watching them.

Ratbagcatbag · 04/11/2019 11:36

My old cat that my ex kept used to sit and watch them from the window. She was absolutely fine with them.

My cat now hides under the bed but isn't too stressed but I still want him in. Mainly because you do hear occasional horror stories where people deliberately injure them.

Our cat has no reaction to fireworks at all like a lot of other cats it seems. What makes it odd is that he is jumpy about everything else, washing on the line, birds overhead and thunder has him hiding under the wardrobe! Fireworks are fine though... Confused Cats! 🤷‍♀️
