What’s the best litter to use?

Kitten has been here a week and the smell of cat wee is driving me mad

We have just a normal box but think it needs to be bigger.

We use pellet litter atm, we don’t use liners, should we?

We pick her poo up straight away cause it stinks lol

I just got Simply Purrfect litter from Costco and its brilliant. The wees ball up so super easy to remove and it makes smells really well. We still have a box with catsan so they can transition and we knew right away when they had pooped in the old litter. Its pricier than Catsan but you don't remove much when cleaning away pee or poops so i reckon itll last ages.

I love Okoplus Cats Best litter, is biodegradable/compostable, and manages smell well in my experience, scoop every morning & evening (& in between if we do notice a stinky poop), I also sprinkle a little bicarb after a day or two, and full litter change every 5 days or so.

You definitely need a big enough litter tray - most are too small for an average adult cat. My old lady prefers a big corner one with a lower front she can get in and out of easily, my younger boy prefers his covered one. There’s another ‘neutral’ one they only use in emergencies!

Some people don't like it because it falls through the holes in some scoops but I have a scoop with smaller holes but wood pellet and a hooded loo. The wood pellets seem to contain the smell more and I find it is so much easier to clean up. I usually get agri select from pets at home. £5.99 for 30 litres.

Wood pellets here, go into sawdust when wet, never had any smell issues.

Another vote for worlds best cat litter. I order it on zooplus.

I used wood pellets with my rescue cats when I got them and they liked it and I liked that it absorbed the smells.

We use the Cats Best one , it is soft on their feet , very absorbant and if they CBA burying , then no smell (but sometimes they just leave it proudly on the surface for a laugh)

It does track but its a minor downside .

And my cats 'aroma' improved hugely when they went onto grain-free biscuits

I'm with wood pellets . Furry terrorists are 5 yrs old and we hadn't used trays since 12 weeks .. but moved 5 weeks ago and had to keep them in..

Tried three different types but smell was awful until we discovered wooden pellets that dissolve to sawdust. Excellent !

Worlds best is the best I’ve had to date.

I used to use wood as they were great for masking smell, but now use worlds best and it's great, clumps really well and so can scoop out and do a full change far less often.

We use wood pellets and remove solids ASAP but are we supposed to remove wet pellets too? I don’t think our house smells if cat wee but I’d hate to be smell blind!!
How often do you all actually change the whole tray?
