Would you take 13 week old kitten on holiday?

Dcat will be 13 weeks and due her second jan the week after we come back.

We are due to go to another town that’s 3 hours away in the middle of November for 2 nights. We are renting a air bnb that’s pet friendly.

She’s too young to go to a cattery and the thought of leaving her alone all day with someone going in once or twice a day makes me feel sick.
Iv asked a few friends to see if they can have her but waiting to hear back.

Would it be really bad to take her with us? With her bed and toys etc so they are familiar?

I wouldn't, can't you ask/pay someone to stay at your house with her?

madcatladyforever · 26/10/2019 11:31

I always used to take my kittens on holiday with me when they were babies. They are very flexible at that age.
They don't like it when they get older and are better with a pet sitter then but at 13 weeks you will be fine.

Oldraver · 26/10/2019 12:49

I would take her. I wouldn't want to leave a young kitty alone.

My first reaction was NO WAY. But, maybe...

In your situation I would perhaps buy a folding dog crate to take with you and keep the kitten in that when you're out or sleeping, for their safety. Also use a very secure cat carrier in the car and do not be tempted to let the kitten out of the carrier during the journey at all. The biggest risk with taking cats to new places is always that they escape in unfamiliar surroundings.

I would. We take our cats away with us and I have done so at that age. I have found a harness and being held on a passenger's lap to be much better for them, rather than being put in a carrier. They get far less distressed. And have a litter tray handing to put her on during the journey.

Mollpop · 27/10/2019 18:45

Seriously? You want to inflict a three
hour car journey on her then have her in unfamiliar surroundings for two days then another three hour journey back? I really hope you're joking.

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 27/10/2019 18:49

I'd probably cancel the trip tbh.

My cats would hate this. Even 5 mins in car to vets is torture. But if your cat is ok in cars it might be do-able.

I'd always aim to leave mine at home in familiar surroundings though.

We did this with our 2 at exactly that age, but it was for a week. They didn't enjoy the journey (we had a really big crate with cushions, blankets, food and a litter tray) but perked up as soon as we arrived and were great all week. We couldn't bear the thought of leaving them!

Darksideofthemoon19 · 27/10/2019 19:03

She seems fine in the car, she was fine in the hour drive home and since we’ve been to the vets

I would give it a go.

If she doesn’t appear to be happy in the car I’d turn around and go back.

We had a holiday home and girl cat used to come with us, but boy cat preferred to stay home with either a house sitter or just someone popping in with food.

Girl cat would happily jump into her travel carrier and sleep most of the time or just sit &
Watch the world go by.

She came to a couple of other places with us in winter and would go outside on a harness. At our holiday home she’d be free range.

LynetteScavo · 27/10/2019 19:05

My kittens were crazy at that age - climbing up curtains etc. I definitely would take them in a 3 hour journey to an unfamiliar place. I'd be terrified of losing them in an unfamiliar house - they found enough hiding places in my own home my older cats hadn't discovered.

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 27/10/2019 19:06

Then why not? It’s not like summer when you’d want all the doors & windows open. But even if you did, you could pop a harness on her.

Takeaway/cook at the place and I can’t see a problem.
