We have reserved a lovely, friendly girl who will be coming home with us next week. She's timid but affectionate, and needs to be on medication and a special diet.

How does the 'quiet room' thing work? We think the upstairs box room would be best (project declutter needed!) as downstairs is open plan. So do we shut her in that room or leave the door ajar so she can come out if she wants?

Shut her in for a few days at least, but try to spend time in there. You don't necessarily need to interact with her if she doesn't appear to want it, so just spend time MNing or something. Once she seems a bit more confident (it could be days, it could be a couple of weeks or more) then leave the door open (but of course make sure all outside doors and windows in the rest of the house are shut) and allow her to explore. You will probably find she continues to bolt back to her original room for some time when feeling scared, but should gradually spend less and less time in there.

Thank you @thecatneuterer

We've got her home, she's very friendly! And loud - lots of miaowing until you stroke her. Hopefully she'll settle in soon.
