Monthly costs of owning a cat?

Just that really. We’re definitely set on getting a rescue cat or kitten soon but just wondering roughly how much money we’ll spend each month . For food mainly, but also anything else I haven’t thought of! Have looked at pet insurance so I have an idea of that but would be interesting to hear what other people pay.

Also considering 1 vs 2 cats and DP is against 2 based on additional costs so will be good to give him some figures!
Thanks!

Regarding food - whatever you switch to, do so gradually (maybe try 25% new food / 75% old for a week, then switch to 50/50 etc). A sudden change may upset his tummy. We were recommended by the vet (and rescue place) to mainly feed a good quality dry food. We use James Wellbeloved because that's what they'd been weaned on (we got them as 10 week kittens). Dboycat likes a bit of wet food so has a small portion (about 1/6 can) of Sainsbury's own-brand in the evening.

Haven't read all replies so not sure if you have your answer but we spend

•£10 a month on food including treats!
•I get a pack of 4 advantage flea treatments from an online vet medicine store for £10
•£10 a month on litter
• 11 a month on pet insurance.

Altogether around 30 a month! Not much at all.

She's nearly 8 and isn't interested in toys etc.
