Brother and sister 18 weeks old. Abandoned in a bin and mum died. Sad.
Rescue centre says they are inseparable so we said we'd take them both.
Now im nervous. Are 2 really better then 1 ?
Been reading advice online and will get multiple litter trays, food bowls etc..
Do they really ignore cat beds ?
Is there anything mega important i need to know??

Can you try to play with them? It will get you closer to each other, did you buy toys?

Winona45 · 21/10/2019 22:06

Yup bought toys. Been dangling all sorts down the side of the sofa only to be hissed at.

The rescue should take them back, and if you decide to do this then I would do it sooner rather than later. I don't want to say too much but have just been through a very similar scenario and it was heartbreaking, but ultimately we had to do the right thing not only for the animal but also for our family. Good luckThanks

They won’t know how to play. Trouble is with a dead mum no ones taught them to hunt properly either.

How are you getting on?.

Op it's really hard, I totally understand. We adopted 2, a mum and daughter from Cats Protection. We had hissing, hiding and it was tough for the first 6 months. Gradually they both came around, the mum more so as she had an owner previously whereas the daughter was born outside. I'm happy to say they are both pretty soppy now, love being fussed and even nervous daughter cat will sit on laps now and then!

I did feel like I wasn't prepared at the beginning though, so if you don't feel they will be happy with you, don't feel bad Flowers

We took on our cats about 5yrs ago because they didn't like neighbour's dog. They had been living outside for months and were under a year. One was tame but she is not the cleverest cat in the world and was literally starving as unable to hunt. Her brother was much more timid and really probably took a couple of years to be comfortable around us. He will now sit on laps but it has taken years. If it wasn't for his sister being so soppy I don't think we would have taken them on. Even now and even though I am his favourite he will only come indoors on his terms, he will always look for escape routes and gates being picked up.
