Recovery from spaying....how long?

I had my 6 month old female kitten spayed today. Poor thing has a cone which she hates and the wound looks so much worse than I expected.

I’m keeping her separate from her brother today (much crying from both).

How long before the wound heals enough that I can remove the cone and let her out of one room?

Feel like my heart is breaking! Poor little thing.

We never use cones. She should be kept inside for around 3 or 4 days, but there is no reason she shouldn't be with her brother (was he done too?). I would take the cone off and just keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't 'worry' the stitches.

Are the stitches visible? Our clinic does internal ones so there really is nothing to pull at.

My DKitten was jumping on worktops / climbing curtains the day after the op. We wouldn't have known she'd been done if we hadn't taken her there ourselves! No cone and she was with her brother all the time (he had the chop at the same time).

I think a mixture of internal and external. I’ve posted an image if it helps? The cone has now come off 3 times - she wants to play with it she just won’t wear it!

Her brother was done a few weeks back, they wouldn’t do her at the time as she wasn’t heavy enough.

Is it ok if she does lick the area?? Or a complete no no.....?

That looks fine, and it's doesn't matter if she licks it.

Motheroftwofeline · 09/10/2019 19:05

@thecatneuterer thank you for putting my mind at rest. She has a check up on Saturday morning, and I’ll be with her all day tomorrow. Just worried as she’s so tiny and I’d hate for anything to go wrong. Is this what it’s like having kids???!

Ditto - if we hadn’t taken DSisterCat to the vet ourselves and seen the shaved fur, we wouldn’t have known she’d been done! Leaping up the windows after flies within a few hours of coming home....

She’s recovering well and the wound looks like it’s improving. She was hyper after the op, which worried me, quiet / tired yesterday (which pleased me - healing time!) and pretty much back to her normal self today!

So today (approx 72 hours since op) little girl has vomited and had a bit of diaharrea in tray. The vomit looks like she was bringing biscuits up (which has happened before, rarely) and had eaten around an hour before. Should I be worried? I will discontinue the painkillers as was warned they might cause issues.

She’s either sleeping cuddled up to her brother or leaping / dashing around so it’s hard to know how she is 😂

Wound looks ok, no obvious signs of infection.

Get some frozen white fish (sainsburys basics) and steam it to settle her tummy. My cat used to love that on a weekend!

Motheroftwofeline · 12/10/2019 08:02

Seems much better again today. Maybe just one of those things!

The fresh fish sounds like a nice idea.
