Anyone else struggling with fleas?

So I have 4 cats who go out during the day and in the last 6 years never had a major issue with fleas - treated cats periodically with either frontline or stronghold when needed (alternate and don't do it every month so the cats don't become immune) and the house gets sprayed every few months

This year though the little bastards (the fleas not the cats!) just won't bugger off!
So far I've tried

  • front line spot on (didn't work at all!)
  • flea spray you use ON the cat every few days
  • sprayed the house several times with different sprays
  • combing the cats every few days

But today 2 of the cats seem covered again!

Any other ideas???

I don't think I can use the flea bomb things? Would I have to strip the beds before setting them off? And what about kids toys being out??

Get a decent flea treatment for the cats from the vet. Mine get stronghold plus. Indorex is supposed to be good for the house

The cats don't become immune.

I believe fleas are now resistant to Frontline though.

I still shudder about the Fleamageddon we experienced when using Frontline. Horrendous. Not a single problem since using first Advocate and now Stronghold Plus.

We'are trying tablets which seem to be quite effective but fleas do seem more prevalent this year.

You need decent flea treatment from the vets. EVERY MONTH. Expensive but essential. I have two outdoor hunting sadist types in an area with lots of foxes and so far not a single flea. I've been using Advocate but the vet has just moved over to Stronghold.

Thanks all!
Last night i combed all the cats with a flea comb and blitzed a few of the critters that way (it was like a bloody hairdressers with them all lined up 🤣)
Then today I've used a whole can of flea spray on the floors

Next step is the stronghold - I did try ordering online but seems like even the online places insist on a vet prescription

Where can you get the flea tablets from? Might give that a go??

@Lamentations
I'm blaming my tabby cat for the state we are in - he has made friends with a local fox - I kid you not I opened the bloody front door the other night and it was sat there waiting for the cat to come out and then they play a game of chase in the Close

Even just relaying that story makes me sound like a crazy cat lady 🤣

Stronghold plus and advocate are prescription only. You can buy Advantage over the counter which has the same flea component as advocate (it doesn't have the worm treatment that advocate has)

Reythemamajedi · 03/10/2019 21:23

I buy tablets from amazon. 3 of mine will take them, the other 2, I use frontline and then whenever we're at the vet, they get stronghold.

Boysey45 · 06/10/2019 20:14

You can get advantage from Animed without prescription. Its £10.49, that works.
I had a flea infestation a few years ago what worked for me was the Indorex and 3 flea bombs. I can remember stripping the beds and hovering them everyday as well as every room and round the skirting boards as well. It was an absolute PITA.
Check the instructions on the flea bombs. I'd personally put the kids toys away. Everyone has to be out of the room whilst they go off and for a while afterwards. You then have to air the room. Whatever you do make sure the cats are out you don't want them poisoned.
You could strip the beds when you set them off for good measure.

@Boysey45
Thanks for the tips I don't have anywhere I could put the kids toys and all of downstairs is very open plan and the stairs is then open to go upstairs I think I'd be panicking too much doing the 💣

I've ordered the indorex and managed to get some stronghold on Saturday from the vets so 🤞🤞 this will nuke the little buggers
