How do I get antibiotic capsule into cat?!

Poor pussums has got a massive cat bite absess on her head and needs a 10 day course of antibiotic capsules. Thought about opening them up and mixing with a Lick-e lix but even if that works once or twice I am sure she'll get wise to it.

Have never had to give her medicines before, please share your tips and tricks!

Are they those pink pills.

We act like they are treats and ask if they want a treat.

I have 5 cats and they all love their antibiotics.

Madame Cat is not easily fooled and will definitely know that they are not Dreamies!

They slip into piece of hotdog quite easily. My method is to cut a few hotdogs up and feed the cat a few pieces with nothing in them really quickly after each other. I find cats chew the first couple pieces, but if they’re offered one right after another (hold them in front of their face so they know they’re getting another one) they start gulping them down. As soon as they start gulping, pop one with a pill in into their mouth.

I use spam, the same method as the hot dogs though.

Right, off to stock up on processed meat products, Lick-e lix and my last resort- caramel sauce...

I just open them and mix it in his food.

The only thing that's worked for us is dissolving the medication in 0.5ml of water, drawing it into a small syringe, wrapping the cat in a blanket and squirting the meds into his mouth. But I have a particularly grumpy cat.

Well according to the vet in the video, cats can't taste sweet stuff so I have no idea why Madam Cat goes mad for unattended sticky toffee pudding!

Just go back to the vet and ask for the long lasting antibiotic injection, life’s too short to pull a cat. I usually recommend crushing in a lick-e-lix and dabbing it on a paw, but someone threatened to sue me when their cat carefully wiped it off on their sofa.

You could try coating the tablet on butter, open, pop it in and hold close x

I paid extra for liquid ab for ours when he was going into a cattery & I didn’t want to put them to the trouble of crushing tablets & it was pineapple flavoured.

Even the vet was a bit wtf about that one. He ate it though.

Don a motorbike jacket and gloves. Use lots of hotdogs and about half a ton of butter. Give up and crawl bleeding to vets for a long lasting injection and stop at minor injuries for the necessary medical attention for you.

Depending on your cat you may need another person to hold it but with one hand grasp either side of its mouth eg if using your left hand put left thumb by cats right side of mouth and your index finger on the left side of cats mouth - apply a small amount of pressure and open cats mouth - hold the capsule in your right hand and put put it in the cats mouth as far back on cats tongue as possible then close cats mouth keeping your left hand where it was and use your right hand to keep the mouth closed - count quickly to 5 - cat will swallow and the tablet will go down ( repeat if the cat is wilt enough to move tablet to the side of its mouth and spit it out - rate but can happen ) . That’s my method and works very well - expect cat to be either unbothered or glare at you after .

I usually wrap the cat in an old blanket (kept for purpose) sit down with her on knees with my elbows at side. Lift head (wearing gardening gloves kept for purpose) open mouth, drop it in then hold mouth together while rubbing the neck.

Works for me now I'm an old pro at it. Puss will not fall for anything being hidden in food!

Allergic I love those instructions!

My method is to use a Whiskas pouch or similar and bury the tablet amongst the meat - wait till the cat is hungry and hope he wolfs it down without noticing the tablet.

If this fails (which it sometimes does) I try hand feeding it wrapped in ham or similar which usually does the trick.

My poor old boy who was on lots of meds has gone now - I have yet to try this with my younger cats!

My mum swears by smearing tablets in cat-o-lax - apparently they love the taste of that.

Cheese. Although I never did it with a capsule to be fair, works with tablets. Ham also, although it's harder to keep it wrapped. I've also been known to spend a fair amount of time making tuna coated tablets. The trick is to keep squishing it....

Ok so dose 1 successfully deployed. I opened the capsule and stirrd powder in some gravy (she only eats the gravy from wet food and routinely leaves most of the meat...) which she lapped up.

However, I am not stupid enough to think I have cracked it. 9 more doses to go and plenty of opportunities for her to not eat whatever I've put it in but so far, so good.

She is an odd creature, doesn't like cheese, tuna or ham (does like sticky toffee pudding sauce and crisps though...)
Totally distraught at going in carrier and car to vets but totally unfazed by having thermometer up her bum, her wound seen to and head shaved.

I had a cat who would take antibiotics out of my hand. That is until he started to feel better then he was jammed between my legs and I popped it in his mouth. He was a very calm cat who didn't fight back.
