Personality change after neutering?

Has anyone experienced this?

We have 3 female cats, 3 year old sisters and 1 year old daughter of one of them. They’ve always lived together quite happily, sleep together, groom each other etc. Always been very close.

Last month we took 1 of the 3 year old sisters to be neutered. She’s had a couple of litters and we decided that was enough for her. Since then she’s been an absolute demon cat!

She attack’s her sister if she comes anywhere near her. She attack’s her daughter. Her sister currently has 5 week old kittens that we’ve had to move upstairs as she keeps attacking them unprovoked whereas the last litter she was cleaning and sleeping with them even though they weren’t hers!

She’s now getting aggressive to people also. She bit my daughter for stroking her and today when I put her food out, the same way I always do, she spat at me and clawed my arm.

She’s gone from a lovely, affectionate cat to an almost feral monster! Nothing has changed except neutering.

We’ve got feliway friends set up, she’s being dosed with zyklene, she’s been back to the vets who can find no physical issue.

What on earth has happened and what do we do to solve this?

They are Ragdoll cats if that’s relevant at all.

Are you planning on spaying the other cats? Have the pregnancies been planned?

Personally, I would get her checked out by the the vet. Cats can be aggressive if they're feeling uncomfortable.

She’s been checked over by the vets and they found no problem.

No the other cats are not being spayed yet. The pregnancies were planned yes, they are all pedigree registered breeding cats.

The girl that’s gone crazy was my show champion but she’s never going to tolerate it now she’s behaving like this! I don’t understand it at all.

I’ve retired and spayed girls loads of times but never had one with such a big behaviour change.

I have never come across this. I've seen plenty (normally cats that have been kept indoor only and not spayed) who have become crazy with the hormones and then revert back to nice, normal loving cats once they've been spayed, but never the other way round.

Neither have I. It’s baffling me. I expected her to be calmer after neutering but she’s literally gone feral almost. She’s hissing and spitting at everyone and it’s getting worse. I’ve asked the vet to refer her to an animal behaviourist today to see if they can get to the bottom of it.

I don’t know what to do. It’s getting worse by the day. Today she’s bit the other cat and drawn blood. Vet offered no help except some cats prefer being alone and we should rehome her. But she’s lived with other cats for 3 years!

I’d see another vet. Are you sure she is not in pain?
