Why did my cat do this? Wee in the house!

She's 5 and in very good health. Bizarrely a vet check only yesterday which coincided with yearly injections. Nothing wrong with her.

She's never ever weed in the house. We've had her since she was 8 weeks old.

However - a few points of note ..

We moved house on 30th August so nearly 4 weeks ago. She found this stressful! She was created for 5 hours on the day when we moved so she didn't escape and on being allowed out, hid behind the sofa for about 24 hours. In this time, she'd still come out if called but dashed back to hide.

Within days, she was ok. Exploring the house and purring and rubbing her face on anything to imprint on her new home. She had a litter tray for first time since a kitten and used it impeccably

After 18 days we let her outside. Quiet area, started with a few mins and she was soon back to her usual pattern of going out for an hour or two in the morning and then again in the evening before being inside from 9pm ish

So we removed the litter tray over a week ago. No issues at all. She was using a patch at the back of our garden. So we were back in our usual routine

This morning I come down to a large puddle of wee behind the tv. She was round there last night and we hoiked her out due to the wires etc but thinking about it, she clearly wanted to wee there then. No need for her to as she'd been out before and went out for a while after.

Cleaned it all up with an enzyme cleaner and spray etc etc. So... will she do it again? She crept over to there a few hours ago so I removed her and popped her elsewhere and then She's gone out for a while

Any ideas? Why would she do this? Do we put the litter tray back? She's honestly only ever had one when tiny and for the move

Help!

Put the tray back.

I think we need to. DH doesn't like it in the house and thinks it'll confuse her if we put it back. I think we need to as can't have her using our home - brand new bloody carpets! - as a litter tray

Thing is though she probably didn’t realise it was an option until you moved. It’s like the introduction of indoor bathrooms in the 1960’s. No ones ever been tempted to put a loo in the garden and bath by the fire since have they?.

I prefer toileting inside and I don’t think that makes me precious.

I still have a tray and my 2 cats normally do their business outside. There is an odd occasion they will use it so it will stay

Put the tray back. You should always have a tray available in a house. There are many times when cats just want to go out (when it's raining hard for example).
