Rescue centre- What to do?

We visited a rescue centre at the weekend and chose our new kittens to join our family. We filled in the form and answered all the questions that were asked of us.

It is an independent centre, so not RSPCA etc, and the women who runs it seemed very pleasant and through. Before we left I spoke with the lady and agreed I would ring the following to confirm the day for collecting after we had thought about it over night and got together the things needed. She said that was great and said it did not matter ' whenever ' as she is around all the time.

This was Sunday. I phoned Monday morning and left a message. I heard nothing.
I rang today and left and message on her mobile number. Still nothing!

What would you do?

We have bought lots of stuff for the cats, bedding, food, bowls, I even bought the food they were eating!

I cannot ring again!

The kids suggest just turning up at the weekend......

Does she have a website? Maybe she has taken ill. But if there are cats there, someone must be about.

If you don’t hear back, drop round.

Flicketyflack · 24/09/2019 19:53

Website says nothing!

It is an hour journey so not just 'dropping by' territory!

Kids are worried.....Sad

Is there an email address?

Sorry, I’m not being much help😊. I remember the night before I picked up my kitten, there were no guarantees they would hold her for me, and they were funny about times etc. I was really stressed out she would be gone, so I feel your pain,
.
Maybe it’s worth he drive on Saturday, and if they are gone at least your tried?

I'd go in person armed with a basket!

TrainspottingWelsh · 24/09/2019 20:14

If it's a tiny, mainly one person operation is it possible she's dealing with a crisis of some type?

I had some involvement with a tiny rescue over an injured, suspected feral cat. I'd said I was happy to pay any costs, and if it did turn out to be either feral or unwanted I'd have it back. It took about 10 days for her to get back to me because she'd had a sickly older kitten with its own ill kittens handed in and was bogged down in bottle feeding and nursing on top of her regular duties.

Vinorosso74 · 24/09/2019 20:15

Do they have any social media at all? That may indicate whether she is busy.
I follow an independent rescue and the woman who runs it gets overrun with messages at times on top of looking after all the cats.

Branleuse · 24/09/2019 20:27

rescue centres are notoriously like this. I had to do loads of chasing up before getting my dog. The thing is, theyre often run by slightly bonkers cat people and dog people, who are passionate, but they are not run as an efficient business. Sometimes they dont have the volunteers to do all the organising on top of the animal care. It can be frustrating, but tbh, id just keep trying, or even go up there

Flicketyflack · 24/09/2019 21:05

That is reassuring!

She was slightly eccentric 😉 and overwhelmed I agree.

We are taking on three little black kitties too so I can't imagine people rushing to re-home them ☹️

Will be patient and try again in 24 hrs Smile

i think if you leave such long gaps, you might not even catch her. Id call a few times a day till u get through.

Bubbles121 · 24/09/2019 21:41

@TrainspottingWelsh what happened with your semi feral cat?

@Flicketyflack I hope you get your kittens!

Flicketyflack · 24/09/2019 21:51

I have called a lot today at different times!

I have left a message on man number and her mobile too.

I think if I give her 24 hrs I will then call again repeatedly on Thursday........

bubbles had to be trapped hence the rescue, but turned out to have a chip and deliriously happy owners after being lost for over a year. I think at the point it turned up here it was just hurt, hungry and v scared.

However one of the 'kittens' is currently sat in the kitchen sink 9yrs later Grin

TrainspottingWelsh · 24/09/2019 22:49

And should add the lack of contact was after we'd trapped it and she'd taken it, incase that reads she ignored contact about an injured cat.
