'Cats love their humans just as much as dogs do.'

Article in today's times. Apparently research has shown that cats do develop attachments to their carers.

Err seriously, this needed research?! People were paid to study what we all know!!

My cat doesn't. Really, really couldn't give a shit. She'd barely wait for me to go cold before she was chewing my face off Grin

My cat is so loving, always wants to be close, get fussed, and will take any and every opportunity to be sat on me.

Or family that visit. Or the cat sitter. Or the gas man... 🙄 I'm perfectly aware that I'm special for no reason other than proximity 😁

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2019 11:38

People have commented that Sparklingcat is very bonded to me. She comes running when I get home (ok mainly for food but hey).
She loves to sit in the living room with the whole family.

I don't think she will be with us much longer so I am making the most of it.

SJT cat loves me, I’m having a work from home day and she has either been on my lap or sat on my shoulder. If she wants a cuddle when I’m walking around she shouts, waits until I say come on and then jumps up for one.

I've had dogs and cats and I don't think it's true tbh. Cats like you, but the devotion you get from a dog is on another level imo.

Sparklingbrook · 24/09/2019 11:47

You only have to look at Dean and Nala on 1bike1world to see proper feline love. She adores him.

SoftBlocks · 24/09/2019 11:50

I have had several cats and their attitudes ranged from utter devotion (especially to DH) to thinly veiled contempt (all about the food).

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 24/09/2019 11:55

I raised my baby kitty from under two weeks old, feeding her by hand every couple of hours, wiping her backside to get her to pee and poop. Staying up most of the night to keep her alive after her mum dumped her.

And does she appreciate it? Am I her favourite person? Of course not. She adores DH who is highly allergic to cats and always said he didn't really like them. But do cats love people as much as dogs? Definitely. She adores her daddy and our children. I've never seen a cat so at ease with kids.

I think cats do love thier humans as much as dogs do, but it comes with conditions!

A cat's love is conditional and judgemental whereas a dog will love you no matter who you are Grin

My female cat loves me, always falls asleep next to me. My male cat barely tolerates me. In fact, I suspect, he would prefer if I moved out. Hmm

madcatladyforever · 24/09/2019 12:13

My 18 year old cat suffers from anxiety whenever I go out. I've been off work for 2 weeks as We're moving and she's been attached to me like velcro.
She loves nothing more than a day curled up on the bed with me. Me reading, her snuggling.
She used to maul my ex hus bands hand everyday. She knew him better than I did. His hands were covered in red dots where she had bitten him.

Elbels · 24/09/2019 12:16

I think that's true. My cats wait by the window for me to get home everyone night and literally jump for joy when they see me, they sit on the bathroom sink when I brush my teeth and get ready in the morning, they lie on me when I'm on the sofa in the evening and they'll come when they're called when they're outside. They're my substitute dogs!

Toddlerteaplease · 24/09/2019 13:27

Both my cats are very attached to me. Cheddar sits on the bookshelf in the hall and tells me off loudly for leaving her alone for so long if I've been out.

I've had super-attached cats and some very aloof ones. My husband had one girl cat and he was the only human that mattered in her world. She would only sit on him. I was the evil bitch who brought her to the vet etc. I've never felt more like the other woman in my life.

My mother has had cats who knew when she was coming home and would be waiting by the door for her. Her childhood cat apparently was waiting for her when she came back from years abroad.

My current boy mog is definitely attached to me, when I came home after being away for ten days he stuck to me like glue for the next week.
