What's wrong with cats ear?

Sorry the picture isn't great, she wouldn't sit at peace to let me take the photo.

Last week I noticed that from the inside of the ear it looked like a little bruise right at the top of the vein but there was nothing on the outside. But today I've noticed it's grown a white scab over the top on the outside of the ear. I initially thought she'd bumped it as she's always running around like a mad woman and she's an inside cat.

She seems fine otherwise and she's letting me touch it so doesn't seem to be in any pain.

Cats with white ears are far more prone to skin cancer on the edges. Not saying it's that, but I'd get it checked out especially as it's changing quickly. I grew up with four cats with white ears, they each had to have cancer removed, in fact some more than once. It's didn't affect their life style after and it wasn't life threatening as my parents dealt with it.

Oh god!! She's got the vets for her booster jag on Tuesday so will get them to look then.

It might not be, but like l I say worth checking. Later stages it goes red crusty and as it's quite small it'd be easy to remove.

@ifonly4 I hope it's not, she's only 1 and an indoor cat. How unlucky would that be Sad can you remember what it looked like initially? I've tried to look online but all I can find is pictures of poor cats with their whole ear removed.

Age and being and being an indoor cat make it a lot less slightly. Might just be something that's irritated.

I think some of the photos you find on the internet ate worst case scenario, either where it's been left a long time or they've had a few removals.

Scratched it with her back paw whilst having an itch? Mine is always doing it, even with short claws.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 20/09/2019 16:56

I'd guess she scratched it herself while having an itch but if you're in next week anyway get them to have a look.

dazzlinghaze · 20/09/2019 18:49

@msmith501 @smartcarnotsosmartdriver I did think that initially. I wondered if she'd hurt it and then scratched at it too much because she did similar to her paw last year. She hurt her paw pad sliding it under the door then licked at it so much it went raw and scabby.
