Tom cat weight and night problems.

Hi, I've two neutered toms, both are big cats. One of them is constantly begging for food all day and all night.During the night sometimes he is getting me up 5 or more times by howling and carrying on, ripping up the carpets, twanging door handles etc. Running round screeching etc. Its really hard as I'm knackered with it. Hes doing this because he wants meat.
Hes is fed on Hills satiety control food and a small amount of a felix pouch a few times per day and night. I don't want to just give him just dried as I know it can cause blocked waterworks in male cats. He weighs 6.6KG and is a huge cat, I want him to loose weight but how? I love him and don't want him to end up really fat or a diabetic. He will keep howling all night if he doesn't get what he wants. It sounds really mad but its very difficult. My other cat isn't too bad but he want to go in and out all night and starts fighting with the other when he howls. Any suggestions? hes very well with no medical problems either.

I don't know if it would be the right thing to do, but I'd put some dry food out. It might help him self regulate a bit, once he knows it's available. And keep him filled up a bit more.

Well, I know I'm no help, but just came on to say he's gorgeous! ❤️

Oh dear. I don't know the answer either. However it's only cheap dried food (Go Cat etc) that causes urinary crystals. The more expensive stuff is fine. Maybe he would find high meat content dried more satisfying - Applaws or Encore for example.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/09/2019 13:20

I'm imagining you importing some wilderbeest for him to hunt at night ... :)

Boysey45 · 16/09/2019 13:47

Thank you for replying everyone. yes I'm going to try the better quality meat.I noticed yesterday they were sharing pouches of Sheba and they were not as bad.You hardly get any in those pouches either so they must be good. I'll have a look for Applaws and Encore, I've looked at some of the Zooplus cat food but they are so expensive.
Not being tight but 2 quid for a little pouch is a lot.

Could you try raw feeding him? Pets at home sell it.

Is the hills very low in protein? When mines on 8% protein I could happily throttle him with the constant food demands but 9%> is ok.

www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/arden-grange-adult-cat-food-with-chicken--%28online-only%29

Could you try him on this? It’s 75% chicken.

CassianAndor · 16/09/2019 14:17

we have dried food out at all times, never knew it caused problems (which it hasn't with our male cat). Good quality stuff.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/09/2019 14:19

I suggested that one cos the hills has 5 types of veg/cereal protein and I wondered if maybe he’s not absorbing as much protein as the Arden grange which only has one vegetable in it.

Boysey45 · 16/09/2019 15:01

Hi, Hes on the Hills satiety control which is high protein, theres no veg in this one. He wont entertain raw or cooked meat, only cat food pouches and biscuits. Also only certain ones of them as well.
Neither cat will eat Lidl Cat meat, or Sainsburys own brand pouches. They will have Felix pouches, Whiskas pouches, Tinned tuna,Sheba and Aldis cat pate and the pouches in gravy.

Is it wet saiety control or wet?.

Boysey45 · 16/09/2019 19:21

Its the dry satiety control.

You need to feed satiety alone for it to work for weight loss. I would suggest getting the wet satiety and feeding that combined with the dry according to recommended amounts for the weight you want him to be. You could also use puzzle bowls for the dry food so it takes him longer to eat it.

Thanks.
