Moving house

We're moving house next month and I'm worried about how my two cats will take it. I've spoken to the vet and am stocked up on feliway and zylkene, but I'm stressed about keeping them inside.
One cat in particular basically lives in the garden and will find being kept inside very distressing. He's a bit nervous and we have a loud and newly mobile baby, so he likes to be able to escape outside. The vet recommended two months before letting them out - does this seem like a long time?
Has anyone successfully managed to create a temporary outside enclosure to give cats some outside space without letting them roam free? I was looking at the fence top net barriers, but worried they'd somehow escape still. Plus they seem quite expensive so don't want to waste money if it's not suitable.

I haven’t experienced this myself but I’m wondering if a chicken house and run would work. Still could be costly though. When I moved with my cat, I made one room his to start off and then steadily opened up more of the house before he went outdoors. Took about a month. But he was a cat that, when stressed, would head inside. Good luck, hope all goes well

I moved two years ago, and gave them 4 days before letting them out, but they had a mooch about, I sat in the garden whilst they mooched, and they were back sunning themselves on the table in 30 minutes.

We are moving back to UK next month. They have been there 6 years ago, but I'll keep them in for longer this time, probably 10 days, and do what I did last time.

Ah @scaryteacher your cats sound way more chilled than mine! Mine are more of the 'see a fence, must climb the fence' variety! Maybe I can take them into the garden on leads?!

They were 10 when we went back to the UK the first time and were fine. We then moved back to Belgium nine months later and they were out in about 5 days, then moving within Belgium, it was 4 days, but they were 13 by then, so older...and this time they are 16, and more prone to sleeping in the sun than running around.

My uk cats have moved 5 times in 6 years. I keep them in for 1 night. As long as they've eaten and used their litter tray, they can go out. They're not going to learn the new area by being indoors. But they are pretty chill and people orientated.
