Possibly getting a cat - what do I need to consider?

DS is desperate for a pet. He'd love a dog or a cat but there's no way DH or I would have a dog. We both had cats as youngsters so can imagine it at least. I quite like them and it's just the downsides I need to work through.

Who will feed it and clean the litter tray (how often do you do that?!). How smelly are they? Can you make a cat be an indoors cat? Will it fight with the neighbours cats who are always in our garden? Is it best to get a kitten or a rescue cat? Do you go to a shop? I have many questions!

Feeding when we're away isn't a problem as our neighbours will feed it.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Cassian once again, for the challenged. I don't feel guilt. As I said above I live and let live and accept that others make choices which are different from mine. You got the cat from the shelter? - Excellent!
You bought it from a breeder? - Splendid too. As long as you look after it I am happy both for you and your cats.

We’ve had all sorts of cats over the years. I particularly love the Siamese and Oriental breeds as they are great characters and are usually extremely friendly and affectionate . The best tip I could give for anyone about to choose a cat as a pet is - have two. A solitary puss gets into all sorts of destructive mischief on its own as cats are clever and need to have company. If they have another to play, chase, stalk and generally have a good time with they are less likely to shred your sofa !
