I've posted fairly frequently about Snow, through a misdiagnosis of FIP and the vet telling me I'd be best to have her PTS, through to her having all but 4 of her teeth removed at the beginning of this year. She's been off her food and off colour the past few days, now looks like she's going to lose the 4 remaining teeth in the next couple of weeks and face more surgery, more medication and more upheaval. I feel so sorry for her. She's the sweetest natured cat you could ever wish for, I just wish I could make her better Sad. Anyone with any experience of this who can make it seem slightly less awful?

No experience. But hopefully having no teeth with solve the problem. She's gorgeous!

No experience but I‘ve heard that cats without any teeth are absolutely fine.

She manages ok with the 4 teeth she's currently got, i suppose I'm just worried about upping her steroids etc and what sort of detrimental effect that could have on her. Poor cat, it really has just been one thing after another with her Sad

bumping to knock all the cat pee threads off the front page.

Bumping again and also to say that I have had a lot of cats that have lost all their teeth for the same reason. They all bounce back almost instantly and none have had any problems since. My neighbour's cat though had the same problem and still needs medication even after a full mouth extraction -that seems to be the exception though rather than the rule. Good luck to you both.

She's been on 1.5mg of steroids a day, but the vet I saw on Monday says he normally uses 5mg a day. Is that considered a high dose? I know high doses of steroids for a prolonged period of time can cause other issues

So, hopefully 3rd time lucky. Madam went in yesterday and had the last 4 teeth out, plus some roots that were left behind from the last extractions. Managed to come home and wolf down 3 sachets of food one after another. Here's hoping this really will do the trick and I'll finally have a happy healthy cat!

Sounds promising. Let's hope it does the trick. I'm afraid I can't answer your question about steroid dosage.
