Fleas!

Any advice on how to get rid of the little blighters?

Since I got my cat as a kitten I've religiously used Frontline spot on every month. However, I noticed 4 days ago that she is absolutely hopping with fleas. On the vets advice I treated again 3 days ago.... yep, still hopping with fleas.....

I've treated the house with flea spray for furnishings. I chatted to next door as there cat comes in a lot, and there's also had them but was treated 5 days ago. But is also still covered with very alive fleas.

What's going on?

Frontline hasn't worked in a lot of areas for years..... You need a prescription only treatment Stronghold/Advocate. Make sure your neighbours are treating properly too. Indorex for the house.

Ah, thank you. I've changed my subscription to Advantage.

Use Indorex in the house, and vacuum at least once daily for a couple of weeks.

showmethegin · 05/09/2019 22:34

Second Indorex, was the only thing that worked for us and hot washing all fabrics duvets etc and lots of vacuuming. It's grim OP I feel for you!

Advantage works for my cats after fiprinol based treatment stopped working. Wash all soft furnishings, bedding etc and treat the house.
I swear by salt on carpets, just table salt, can be bought in big kg bags in most supermarket, sprinkle it on, leave for a couple of hours, overnight if possible and hoover. Make sure no pets can walk on it whilst it's down. Boiling hot water and plenty of bleach for hard floors.

You need to treat the house and the cat at the same time or you end up in a cycle, cat gets treated, they jump ship, live in the environment around them and first chance they get they'll be back on the cat.

We have 11 cats and we only have to treat for fleas every couple of years. We treat the cats, box them up in their carriers, (also treat the dog) we use flea bombs, so everyone leaves the house, set the bombs off, 2-3 hours later everyone back in, done for a couple of years. We treat our cats that go out, during the summer but mostly because of ticks.

@sugarplumfairy28
Where do you get flea bombs?

My indoor-only cats have got fleas; I don't know how. Previously I have used Advocate from the vet and came on here to ask if anyone could recommend somewhere to buy it online.

MrsA2015 · 06/09/2019 09:05

Oh my god my house was infested for 6 weeks. NOTHING WORKED FROM THE SHOPS.It’s was our neighbours cat who brought them in throughout winter and they all hatched in warm weather. Apparently fox fleas are resilient little buggers that just WOULDN'T DIE. get the exterminators in and ask the vets for their best stuff, flea bathe the cat outdoors and strip off your clothes after doing so or wear plastic poncho. Damned things Angry

Tea you can get them on Amazon or Petsathome. I actually live in Germany, but used to do the same when I lived in the UK. You need to have a general measure around the house, so you know how much space you treat.

This (hopefully link will work) is what we use. www.amazon.co.uk/Ardap-Fumigator-household-premises-Immediate/dp/B07NLM2HG2/ref=sr_1_7?s=gateway&keywords=flea+bomb&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1567762440&sr=8-7

Advocate is prescription only so you could only get it online with a prescription from the vet. Advantage has the same flea treatment as advocate but doesn't treat worms like advocate does

TeaForTara · 06/09/2019 15:09

Is Advantage available online?

dementedpixie · 06/09/2019 15:48

Think pets at home sell it
