Bengal Kittens

Hi,

We have only ever had a grown up cat. We now have 2 kittens, they are brother and sister and are 15 weeks old. When is it ok to let them out? They’re bonkers and have lots of energy so would be nice to let them run around outside but are they likely to run off or are they good at knowing where Home is and coming back? I’m just scared they’ll bolt over the fence and get lost.

Thank you

You need to neuter, microchip and vaccinate them both. Soon as they can be done, my Bengal was trying to mate his sister at 17 weeks.

I kept him in till he was 6 months.

Thanks fluffy cloud. They were vaccinated before we got them so ✅. I went to get them chipped but the vets said it hurts so best to do it when being neutered/spayed which they said to wait until 5 months. I’ve been letting them in the garden and they e loved it and been absolutely fine but I’m scared they’re going to jump the fence and go too far. Are they good at homing in your opinion? Jeez I don’t want a pregnant cat 😱. They do wrestle and he’s always jumping on top of her!

They can be done from 4 months and that's the advised age to neuter/spay. Mine went outside around 5/6 months but it was supervised so they didnt go over the fence

You absolutely shouldn't let them out before neutering. Lots of young female stray cats found with kittens in people's gardens etc. are just such kittens who have been let out unneutered and escaped...

You should get at least one of them neutered ASAP to ensure they don't mate with each other.

Yes we’ve been with them or the kids have so at least if they do hop over we know which way they went, to be honest they would struggle to come to any harm where we live, no roads nearby or anything. It’s just new to me. I’ll get them booked in for in a few weeks I won’t wait another 6 weeks. Thanks for your advice.

My kittens were neutered at 18 weeks, both boys, and I didn’t let them out until after they’d had their first post op check up. They don’t go far at all which surprised me. They tend to hang out with each other or just in a adjacent gardens

The thing with little kittens is getting them back if they do bolt. I think you need to keep a very close eye on them until they’re neutered as the male may be fine and local today but could wander off tomorrow. Mine are trained (accidentally) to come running when they hear me bang a dish with a fork Blush.

The current advice is to neuter from 16 weeks so May be worth getting them to the vet for a pre op check.

OP

There is a rule on here, where are the pics?

TailsoftheManyPaws · 04/09/2019 14:54

Our cat rescue currently has a four-month-old cat that's pregnant. Five months seems a bit late to neuter if you have both sexes in one space!

PickAChew · 04/09/2019 22:28

Deffo need pics!

Neighbour's bengal stays in the garden (she definitely doesn't come into ours and it's full of birds!) but no idea when she first went out.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 04/09/2019 22:34

Where the fuck are the pictures?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 04/09/2019 22:34

Oops, sorry! I have had wine.

Oldraver · 05/09/2019 12:49

We used to take Ernie out in the garden on a harness as he was desperate to be outside

Grambler · 05/09/2019 13:04

You have a boy and a girl and neither are neutered? Get them to the vets! They do it by weight not age. Regardless of whether they are going out they need doing.

Cheetah72 · 05/09/2019 16:46

i have a 2year old tabby savannah which everyone seems to think is a bengal. My cheetah also went out in a harness as he was so desperate to be outside but was given free rein at around 6 months as all the neighbours knew him. He was neutered at 4 months the vet said this was about the right age and he was chipped at the same time

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2019 18:52

Savannah’s aren’t as well established as bengals. Dh saw one being walked and knew what it was.
